Public Safety Officer (Nights & Weekends)
Five Towns College – Dix Hills, NY
Five Towns College is seeking a dependable, professional, and customer-focused Public Safety Officer to join our campus safety team. This position is primarily responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors during evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
Starting Pay
- Starting at $18.00 per hour, plus applicable shift differential for eligible evening and overnight hours.
Responsibilities
- Patrol campus buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and grounds.
- Monitor campus access and respond to security-related incidents.
- Enforce College policies and procedures.
- Provide assistance to students, employees, and visitors.
- Prepare incident and activity reports.
- Respond to emergencies and coordinate with local police, fire, and EMS when necessary.
- Lock and unlock campus facilities as scheduled.
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems.
- Perform other public safety duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current New York State Security Guard License (Certification) required.
- Prior security, law enforcement, military, or public safety experience preferred.
- Valid New York State driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Must be able to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
Schedule
- Evenings, overnights, and weekend shifts.
- Holiday availability may be required.
- Shift differential applies to eligible hours.
