Responsibilities
- Review and interpret detailed construction drawings, technical specifications, and blueprints to accurately estimate material requirements and labor costs for underground projects.
- Develop comprehensive project estimates using industry-standard software such as HeavyBid, Xactimate, and Bluebeam, ensuring precision in pricing and cost management.
- Manage and negotiate contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure optimal pricing and terms that align with project budgets.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to assess project scope, identify potential risks, and implement effective cost control measures.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals, including scope of work, cost breakdowns, and schedules that reflect realistic timelines and resource allocations.
- Monitor ongoing project costs against estimates to identify variances early and implement corrective actions for budget adherence.
- Conduct construction drawing reviews to verify accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with safety standards before project commencement.
- Lead negotiations with stakeholders to resolve scope changes or unforeseen challenges efficiently while maintaining positive relationships.
- Oversee the estimation process from initial concept through final bid submission, ensuring all aspects of the underground construction are accurately captured.
Experience
- Proven experience managing construction estimates specifically for underground or heavy civil projects with a focus on site development or tunneling work.
- Strong background in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and construction documents related to underground infrastructure.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, along with a solid understanding of construction management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy in cost estimation and budgeting.
- Excellent negotiation skills combined with a thorough understanding of contracts, procurement processes, and cost control strategies.
- Construction site experience is highly preferred to provide practical insights into field conditions impacting estimates.
- Knowledge of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and best practices within the underground construction industry is essential.
