About Archway Academy
Archway Academy is a recovery high school in Houston's Museum District serving students in grades 8 through 12 who are in recovery from substance use disorder and the mental health challenges that often accompany it. Our mission is to provide a supportive and sober learning environment that meets the individual educational needs of adolescents in recovery.
Position Summary
The Recovery Specialist provides daily support, structure, and accountability for Archway students. This role requires strong observation, communication, and intervention skills in work with students, parents, teachers, and colleagues, and close coordination with Archway's academic partner, families, and clinical staff. The Recovery Specialist reports to the Clinical Director.

Employment Type: Full-time, [exempt / non-exempt], 12-month position
Location: 6221 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030 (on-site)
Schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus approximately four weeks of scheduled work during the summer
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field, or active licensure in a counseling field
- Ability to pass a background check and maintain strict confidentiality under FERPA and 42 CFR Part 2
- Clinical licensure or a relevant certification is required
Preferred
- LCDC or LPC licensure, or licensure in progress
- Experience working with adolescents in a recovery, clinical, educational, or residential setting
- Familiarity with 12-step or alternative peer group models
- Lived experience of recovery is valued but not required
Responsibilities
Student Support and Assessment
- Assess students' needs for emotional support through observation, insight from counselors and parents, and self-reported concerns
- Provide guidance and support on educational and emotional issues through individual dialogue and facilitated activities focused on coping with stress
- Facilitate and moderate daily student check-ins
Behavior Management and Documentation
- Apply Archway's behavior management system consistently and fairly
- Engage students in direct dialogue regarding behavior concerns
- Manage student behavior through clear direction, accountability, and documentation via the Behavior Sheet
- Review and document Behavior Sheet data with the team daily
- Create behavior contracts and action plans
- Provide data-driven feedback to teachers regarding student behavior and emotional needs
Family and Team Communication
- Communicate student needs, behavior concerns, successes, and accomplishments to parents by email and phone
- Address organizational concerns and teacher and student rapport with staff
- Assist with training of teaching and recovery staff
Classroom and Crisis Support
- Provide in-class support for teachers on classroom behavior management
- Support teaching and Archway staff during crisis situations, which may include supervising a classroom when a teacher is unavailable
Recovery Monitoring
- Perform drug screenings via urine analysis in accordance with Archway protocol and confidentiality requirements
Organizational Participation
- Participate in special projects as needed, including fundraising events, SPROM, graduation, and Board meetings
- Perform other assigned duties, including attendance calls and check-in setup
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Passion for helping young people in recovery
- Competence in core counseling skills
- Patience and de-escalation skills
- Ability to work closely with a team
- Strong written communication, especially by email
- Strong verbal communication with colleagues, particularly in group settings
- Flexibility and adaptability when the daily schedule is disrupted
- Ability to plan and organize activities, field trips, and workshops
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
