Job Title: Energy Efficiency Technician (Insulation / Air Sealing) — Ascend Construction
Location: Fort Collins, CO (local, no overnight travel)
Status: Full-time, hourly/production hybrid
About Ascend Construction
We’re a family-owned, locally operated insulation and air sealing company serving Northern Colorado. We retrofit existing homes and support new builds, focusing on attic insulation, spray-foam air sealing, conditioned crawlspaces, radon systems, vapor barriers, and more. We believe in doing excellent, high-impact work, helping homeowners reduce energy use, increase comfort, and shrink carbon footprints , while running a team-first culture grounded in safety, respect, and balance.
Because we’re growing fast, we’re building a high-trust, high-performance crew. We want people who see this role as a career path, not just a gig.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be part of a 2–3 person crew that executes hands-on installations on residential jobs. Your tasks will include:
- Operating insulation vacuums
- Applying two-component spray foam (after training)
- Installing vapor barriers, radon systems
- Blowing loose-fill insulation, installing batts
- Minor drywall repair work
- Assisting with general construction tasks to keep jobs on track
- Daily check-out, clean-up, and restocking of truck materials and tools
You’ll work local routes (within ~45 minutes), return to shop daily, and never be asked to stay overnight.
What We’re Looking For
- Driver’s license required
- Ability to lift 60 lbs, work in tight & hot attic spaces
- Punctual, dependable, able to follow instructions
- Strong work ethic, curiosity, and a desire to grow
- No prior insulation or spray-foam experience required - we train from scratch
- Willingness to work occasional overtime if needed
- Ability to pass a background check
If you have even basic construction experience (renovation, general labor, carpentry, etc.), that’s a plus - but not a requirement.
What You Get (Beyond Just Pay)
Compensation & Stability
- Guaranteed hourly base for training ($23/hour for first 4–8 weeks)
- After ramp-up, hybrid pay model: base + piece-rate/ completion bonus tier (you’ll have visibility into how to earn more)
- Paid time for truck / tool maintenance / organization (buffer time built into schedule)
- Overtime and bonus pay in accordance with labor laws
Benefits & Support
- PTO (vacation accrued after training, sick leave accrued immediately)
- 401(k) with employer match (after vesting)
- Health insurance (after vesting)
- Tools and supplies provided
- Paid training, certification support, and ongoing development
- Clear, published career ladder: Tech 1 → Tech 2 → Tech 3 → Lead, with pay bands and milestones
- Scheduled light Fridays- flexibility for lighter work, tool prep, or maintenance
- A safety-first culture, quality-minded crew, and open communication environment
What It’s Really Like (The Honest Version)
This isn’t easy work - attics can reach 110–120°F in summer, you must carefully walk only on joist members and get into tight attic eaves, insulation is dusty and itchy, and you’ll be crawling, climbing, and masking up. You’ll use two-part foam rigs to seal air leakage points in attics, and perform multiple small trades at once (insulation, radon plumbing, vapor barriers, minor electrical, some drywall). But this is high-skill, high-impact work: you’ll visibly improve a home’s comfort, energy bills, and environmental footprint every single day. If you’re someone who thrives on learning, grit, and craftsmanship, this role is built for you.
How You Grow Here
- We aim for fast internal promotion (6–12 months) if you show discipline, quality, safety, and leadership
- Each tech level unlocks higher base pay, better job perks, and higher piece rate bonuses
- Lead roles available that shift some oversight & mentoring responsibilities
- Paid certifications and training in spray-foam & building science
How to Apply
Submit your resume or work history (even if minimal). In your cover letter or email, tell us:
- What excites you about working in energy efficiency and residential retrofit
- A time you worked hard to learn something new under challenging conditions
- Any tools or physical work experience you have (even unrelated trades)
If chosen, we will set up a time to speak in person at the Ascend Office for about 30 minutes, and possibly in addition over a video call. We will chat, and may have a quick hands on test to showcase capabilities in simple construction related tasks.
