OVERVIEW
Integrated Environmental Technology (IET) is seeking a Senior Electrical & Controls Technician to support two connected areas of the company: industrial control-panel services for IET Field Services and low-voltage remote monitoring-system installation and repair for IETLink. The position combines hands-on electrical-control expertise, field troubleshooting, instrumentation, communications, and disciplined commissioning documentation.
The successful candidate will be able to interpret electrical drawings, safely diagnose panel and field-device problems, make authorized repairs, and coordinate licensed electricians, vendors, programmers, and project personnel when work extends beyond the technician's qualifications or authority. This person must work independently at active landfill, wastewater, lift-station, and industrial sites while communicating clearly with customers and IET management.
Organizational & Service Scope
The technician performs or coordinates work across the following IET capabilities, as assigned:
- IET Field Services control panels: pump, motor, blower, flare, evaporator, lift-station, leachate, wastewater, and related process-control panels.
- IETLink remote monitoring systems: low-voltage data collection devices, sensors, alarm interfaces, power systems, antennas, and communications hardware connected to the IETLink dashboard.
- Field interfaces: motors, starters, VFDs, relays, contactors, floats, transducers, meters, valves, actuators, alarms, generators, and utility or solar-backed power sources.
- Project support: estimating, site surveys, bills of material, submittals, procurement, warehouse staging, installation, startup, training, warranty, and recurring service.
- Cross-functional coordination: project managers, superintendents, mechanical technicians, engineers, panel vendors, electricians, dashboard personnel, customers, and equipment manufacturers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Control-Panel Installation & Service
- Read and reconcile electrical one-lines, control schematics, ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, loop diagrams, bills of material, equipment manuals, and sequence-of-operation documents.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and control system issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and electrical blueprints with precision.
- Troubleshoot control power, discrete and analog input/output, motor-control circuits, overloads, interlocks, permissives, alarms, communication faults, and device failures using a disciplined fault-isolation process.
- Conduct electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters, multimeters, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to identify faults quickly.
- Program, configure, and modify process controllers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and distributed control systems (DCS), and support automation initiatives.
- Install or supervise mounting, conduit, and cable routing, field-device terminations, grounding and bonding, surge protection, environmental controls, and panel modifications within the technician's authorized scope.
- Inspect existing panels for unsafe conditions, moisture, corrosion, heat damage, loose connections, improper labeling, obsolete components, and serviceability concerns; document findings and recommended corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on system upgrades or modifications involving electrical instrumentation, calibration processes, or control programming.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, system modifications, troubleshooting steps, and safety inspections for compliance and continuous improvement purposes
IETLink Remote Monitoring Installation & Repair
- Conduct pre-installation surveys to confirm monitoring objectives, available power, sensor ranges, mounting locations, cable routes, enclosure requirements, communications coverage, environmental exposure, and customer access constraints.
- Install, terminate, and service IETLink devices, antennas, power supplies, batteries, solar components, and approved sensors for level, pressure, flow, temperature, equipment status, and other monitored conditions.
- Install and test low-voltage cabling and communications such as dry contacts, pulse signals, 4-20 mA loops, 0-10 V signals, pulse inputs, HART, RS-485/Modbus, Ethernet, and cellular connections in accordance with approved designs and manufacturer requirements.
- Configure device addresses, scaling, network parameters, and communications settings using controlled company procedures; protect credentials and avoid undocumented changes to customer networks or equipment.
- Validate the entire data path from the physical process and sensor output through the IETLink device to the dashboard display, trend, alert threshold, and designated notification recipient.
- Diagnose loss of power, sensor drift, failed inputs, damaged cable, poor terminations, antenna or signal problems, gateway faults, communication interruptions, and dashboard discrepancies; replace or escalate components as appropriate.
- Perform preventive maintenance, firmware or configuration updates when authorized, battery replacement, enclosure inspection, cleaning, calibration verification, and signal-strength checks; record all work completed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an industrial electrician or controls technician with a strong background in electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Extensive knowledge of industrial automation systems, including PLCs , process controllers, sensors, remote telemetry systems, high-voltage equipment, and distributed control systems (DCS).
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and schematics related to complex control systems.
- Hands-on experience with troubleshooting techniques for sensors and instrumentation used in manufacturing environments.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to piping systems (P&IDs) as well as pneumatic and hydraulic components.
- Familiarity with electrical safety procedures aligned with industry standards; capable of working safely in high-voltage environments.
- Ability to perform equipment troubleshooting using various diagnostic tools including ohmmeters and multimeters effectively.
- Experience in programming or modifying control logic within engineering software environments; knowledge of programming languages used in automation is a plus.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to team members or clients.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team in fast-paced industrial settings while maintaining attention to detail.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent plus formal electrical, industrial-controls, instrumentation, electronics, or automation training through an apprenticeship, technical school, military program, or employer qualification process.
- Minimum eight years of progressively responsible experience with industrial electrical controls, control panels, instrumentation, automation, telemetry, or related field service; senior-level independence and troubleshooting judgment are required.
- Demonstrated experience assembling, modifying, commissioning, and servicing control panels and their connected field devices in industrial, utility, wastewater, solid-waste, manufacturing, or similar environments.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, Electronics, Mechatronics or a related field.
- Journeyman, master electrician or other applicable electrical license, or documented experience working under licensed electrical supervision where required.
- Experience with common PLC, HMI, VFD, SCADA and remote-telemetry platforms; manufacturer-specific certifications are beneficial but not required.
- Direct experience at landfills, wastewater plants, pump stations, lift stations, utilities or other active environmental facilities.
- OSHA 10- or 30-hour training, NFPA 70E electrical-safety training, first aid/CPR, confined-space or other relevant credentials.
- Experience leading small crews, training technicians, coordinating subcontractors or developing field-service standards.
