Linway United Presbyterian Church in North Versailles, PA, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Church Organist / Music Director to provide music for worship and special services. This role is an important part of our ministry, supporting congregational worship, enhancing the spiritual life of the church, and collaborating closely with our pastor and Music & Worship Committee.
The expectation is to provide music for all regular Sunday services and at least five special services throughout the year. This position includes leading the choir, leading the bell choir, collaborating on the selection of appropriate service music, and supporting the worship life of the congregation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide organ and/or piano music for all worship services, including preludes, hymns, offertories, anthems, and postludes.
- Collaborate with the minister to select music appropriate to the liturgical calendar.
- Direct and rehearse the adult choir and handbell choir. Choose appropriate music for the choir and bell choir to perform from the current files or the occasional purchase of new music.
- Work with the Christian Ed committee in order to assist with providing a music component for the children i.e. Kids Club, Youth Sunday, etc.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before all scheduled services and rehearsals.
- Opportunity to play for weddings and funerals (additional compensation provided).
- Communicate with the Music & Worship Committee regarding music needs, concerns, or organ maintenance.
- Any other duties as needed for the enhancement of the worship services or other activities of the church.
Compensation
- Negotiable consistent with candidate’s education, experience and skill level.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in organ and piano performance.
- Experience in church music and directing choirs preferred but not required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and volunteers.
- Reliability, professionalism, and a heart for worship ministry.
Schedule
- Position typically requires 3 – 6 hours
- Sunday mornings (year‑round).
- Weekly choir rehearsals (typically one evening per week).
- Bell Choir rehearsals when needed in preparation for performances.
- Special services: Ash Wednesday, Lenten service, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve.
- Occasional weddings and funerals (optional but encouraged).
