Position Summary
The Cloud Engineer I supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Digital Solutions Organization (DSO) by designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing secure cloud-based infrastructure and services. The engineer will work within Agile delivery teams to deploy and manage cloud environments that support mission-critical VA applications while ensuring compliance with VA security, privacy, and operational standards.
This position requires hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, automation, DevSecOps practices, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code within enterprise cloud environments supporting federal government systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure within Azure and AWS environments.
- Support migration of legacy applications into cloud-hosted architectures.
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform, ARM Templates, or Bicep.
- Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub.
- Configure cloud networking components
- Monitor cloud infrastructure performance and availability.
- Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives.
- Assist with cloud cost optimization and resource utilization monitoring.
- Implement cloud security best practices
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Produce technical documentation
- Coordinate with system administrators, application developers, cybersecurity engineers, and project managers.
- Support Authority to Operate (ATO) activities and audit requests.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in:
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Engineering
- Information Systems
or
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience
Minimum 4 years of professional IT experience including:
- 2+ years supporting enterprise cloud environments
- Experience supporting federal government or regulated environments
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud services
- Experience deploying Infrastructure-as-Code
- Experience supporting Windows and Linux cloud workloads

Pay: $85.00 - $95.00 per hour
