Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a unit within UNCG’s Student Health Services. UNCG CAPS provides a wide range of counseling and psychological services to currently enrolled UNCG students. The services may include short term individual counseling, group therapy, workshops, and a variety of outreach programs designed to promote self-help and personal growth. Position Summary
- Provide oversight of daily clinic operations to achieve efficiency and effectiveness and ensure all operations are consistent with unit, division, and institutional goals;
- Oversee, direct, coordinate, evaluate and provide strategic leadership and clinical coordination for The Counseling & Psychological Services.
- Provide oversight, supervision, and consultation for clinical risk management.
- Evaluating and assessing the center to optimize clinical services.
- Provide administrative and clinical supervision of The Counseling & Psychological Services staff.
- Ensure adherence and compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards in all areas of service delivery.
- Provide oversight of front desk administrative support staff, case management, outreach, training and group coordination.
- Oversee scheduling and leave to ensure the provision of appropriate clinic coverage.
- Oversee electronic health record implementation, maintenance and updates.
- Oversee and provide leadership for clinical team meetings.
- Provides strategic visioning and planning, as well as implementation of identified goals and initiatives for campus mental health services, within CAPS.
- Collaboratively develop and update CAPS policies and procedures.
- Assisting in the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of a multidisciplinary staff
- Providing leadership and oversight for data reporting and analysis (e.g., utilization, accountability, outcome/impact)
- Providing direct service in clinical service of short-term individual therapy, initial assessments, group therapy and workshops, clinical consultation and outreach programs, supervision and training of practicum/intern graduate students and crisis intervention
- Serving as an administrator and liaison with key campus stakeholders in the absence of the CAPS Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned master’s degree in Counselor Education, Social Work or Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited program.
- Valid licensure in current state with the ability to obtain licensure in North Carolina to allow independent practice within one year of hire; continued employment is contingent upon obtaining license.
- At least five years of experience as a licensed clinician
- At least 3 years of demonstrated supervisory, administrative and program management experience
- Demonstrate professionalism, effective interpersonal skills, and experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, with a commitment to providing respectful and responsive service to all.
- Demonstrated understanding and clinical application of the intersectionality of identity and mental health.
- Expertise in crisis intervention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of suicidality and serious psychopathology, brief therapy, campus outreach and training to a diverse population.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
- Knowledge of ethical and legal issues related to college student mental health
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse disciplines, colleagues and departments.
- Ability to quickly assess and problem-solve in complex situations through effective listening, consultation, data analysis, and critical thinking skills.
- Experience with multidisciplinary teams, practices and approaches.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the DSM-5 TR
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Preferred Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in Counselor Education, Social Work or Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited program, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
- Experience implementing electronic health record
- Expertise in one or more clinical areas, such as Eating Disorders, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Brainspotting
- Counseling experience in a college counseling center.
