Are you a U.S. Coast Guard Certified Captain with a passion for boating and helping others gain confidence on the water? We're seeking a professional, friendly, and safety-focused Training Captain to provide hands-on instruction for our boat rental customers before they head out on the water.
Whether our customers are first-time boaters or experienced operators unfamiliar with our vessels, you'll ensure they leave the dock feeling confident, capable, and prepared for a safe and enjoyable day on the water.
About the Role
As our Training Captain, you'll conduct on-the-water orientations and personalized boating instruction for customers renting our boats. Your mission is to provide a welcoming, educational experience while promoting safe boating practices and protecting our fleet.
You'll work with renters of all experience levels, adapting your training style to each customer's knowledge and comfort level.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct safety orientations and vessel familiarization for rental customers.
- Provide hands-on instruction covering boat operation, docking, maneuvering, navigation, and local waterways.
- Evaluate each renter's ability to safely operate the vessel before departure.
- Teach boating best practices, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
- Answer customer questions with patience and professionalism.
- Complete pre-departure and post-return vessel inspections.
- Assist with marina operations and fleet readiness as needed.
- Promote a positive, welcoming, and safety-first customer experience.
Qualifications
- Current U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License (OUPV or Master License preferred).
- Extensive boating and vessel handling experience.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills.
- Patient, personable, and comfortable working with beginners as well as experienced boaters.
- Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
- Ability to remain calm, confident, and professional in all situations.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and peak boating season.
