Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Customs Broker to join our team. The Customs Broker will play a critical role in ensuring that our import and export shipments comply with all relevant customs laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of international trade, customs procedures, and a keen eye for accuracy and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
· Customs Clearance: Facilitate the customs clearance process for import and export shipments. This includes preparing and submitting all required documentation to government agencies, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and securing necessary approvals and permits.
· Classification and Valuation: Accurately classify imported and exported goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes and determine their customs valuation. Ensure compliance with applicable trade agreements and tariff schedules.
· Duty and Tax Calculation: Calculate and verify customs duties, taxes, and fees owed on shipments. Optimize duty payments by identifying eligible duty reduction programs and free trade agreements.
· Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate records, including commercial invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, and customs declarations. Ensure all documentation is complete, compliant, and filed in a timely manner.
· Communication: Liaise with government agencies, customs officials, clients, and freight forwarders to resolve any customs-related issues or inquiries. Keep clients informed of shipment status and provide guidance on customs compliance.
· Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations, trade laws, and international trade agreements. Ensure that all import and export activities align with current customs practices and requirements.
· Client Support: Provide expert guidance and advice to clients on customs compliance, trade policies, and strategies to minimize customs-related costs.
· Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential customs-related risks, such as penalties or delays. Implement effective compliance and risk management strategies.
· FTZ management: Familiar with FTZ filing procedure and regulations.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Business, Supply Chain Management) is preferred.
· Licensed Customs Broker with a strong understanding of customs regulations and procedures.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs brokerage or international trade.
· Proficiency in using customs brokerage software and tools.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
· Knowledge of international shipping and logistics.
· Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Ethical and principled approach to customs compliance.
