Lighthouse Hospice is growing and seeking a compassionate volunteer to join our hospice volunteer team and provide companionship and support to patients at end of life. Veterans are especially encouraged to apply, as shared experience can bring an added layer of understanding and connection. Your presence, empathy, and willingness to listen can offer comfort, dignity, and meaningful companionship during a deeply important time. This role is centered on human connection through conversation, quiet support, and respectful presence, honoring each patient’s life and journey with compassion and kindness. Our home base is in Eagle but we are looking for a volunteer to cover our Payette/Weiser/Emmett area.
Responsibilities
- Provides emotional support and compassionate care to the patient and family unit.
- Providing companionship through conversation, reading, storytelling or letter writing, games and puzzles, light crafts or nail care, gentle walks, pet therapy, music, or simply being present.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
- Document patient visits in the charting system provided.
Requirements
- Requires minimal physical effort including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, and walking.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use appropriate adaptive devices that will enable senses to function at a level required to meet the essential duties of the position.
- Basic computer proficiency is required, as volunteers are expected to complete patient documentation electronically.
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation.
- A passing background check will be required.
