Medical Director – Urgent Care
Location: Plantation and Tamarac, Florida

Position Summary
The Medical Director provides clinical leadership, oversight, and medical direction for the urgent care center. This position is responsible for helping ensure that patient care is safe, high-quality, efficient, and consistent with applicable clinical standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
The Medical Director works closely with administrative leadership, physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, radiology personnel, and other clinical team members to establish clinical protocols, promote quality improvement, address patient-safety concerns, and support the effective day-to-day operation of the urgent care center.
This is a part-time leadership position requiring approximately 4–8 hours per week, with scheduling based on the needs of the urgent care center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Oversight
- Provide medical leadership and clinical oversight for urgent care services.
- Establish, review, and maintain clinical policies, protocols, standing orders, and standards of care.
- Promote evidence-based clinical practices and appropriate utilization of urgent care services.
- Provide clinical guidance to physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, nurses, medical assistants, X-ray technologists, and other clinical personnel as appropriate.
- Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient-care or operational matters.
- Assist in defining appropriate clinical scope and escalation procedures for patients requiring a higher level of care.
Quality Assurance and Patient Safety
- Participate in the development and oversight of the center's quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Review clinical outcomes, adverse events, medication or treatment concerns, patient complaints, and other quality-of-care matters as appropriate.
- Participate in chart reviews, peer review, and clinical audits.
- Identify opportunities for clinical process improvement and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Promote appropriate documentation, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and follow-up practices.
- Support infection prevention, medication safety, emergency preparedness, and patient-safety initiatives.
Provider Oversight and Support
- Assist with clinical orientation, onboarding, and ongoing education of providers and clinical staff.
- Participate in provider credentialing, privileging, competency review, and performance evaluation processes as requested.
- Provide clinical consultation and mentorship to physicians and advanced practice providers.
- Assist management in addressing clinical performance or professional conduct concerns when appropriate.
- Facilitate communication among providers to promote consistent clinical standards.
Compliance and Regulatory Responsibilities
- Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local healthcare requirements and organizational policies.
- Assist in maintaining policies and procedures necessary for safe and compliant urgent care operations.
- Participate in preparation for regulatory surveys, inspections, audits, and corrective-action plans when applicable.
- Promote compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control requirements, documentation standards, and other healthcare regulations applicable to the center.
- Ensure that clinical practices remain within the scope of services offered by the urgent care center.
Operational Collaboration
- Partner with administrative leadership to improve patient flow, access, wait times, clinical efficiency, and patient experience.
- Provide clinical input regarding staffing models, equipment, medications, diagnostic services, laboratory services, and other operational needs.
- Participate in leadership meetings as reasonably required.
- Assist in evaluating new clinical services, treatment programs, technologies, or protocols.
- Support coordination with hospitals, specialists, laboratories, imaging providers, pharmacies, and other community healthcare resources.
Clinical Responsibilities
Depending on the agreed-upon arrangement, the Medical Director may also provide direct patient care in the urgent care center, including:
- Evaluation and treatment of acute illnesses and injuries.
- Diagnosis and management of common urgent care conditions.
- Ordering and interpretation of diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, and imaging.
- Performance or supervision of appropriate minor procedures.
- Determination of when patients require emergency department transfer, hospitalization, or specialty referral.
- Appropriate prescribing and medication management.
- Timely and accurate completion of medical documentation.
Direct patient-care responsibilities, scheduling, and compensation may be established separately from Medical Director administrative responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
- Current DEA registration, if required for the services performed.
- Board certification or board eligibility in a specialty appropriate for urgent care practice, such as Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine, preferred.
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred or as required by the organization.
- Demonstrated experience providing outpatient, urgent care, emergency, family medicine, or similar clinical services.
- Previous medical leadership, supervisory, quality assurance, or Medical Director experience preferred.
- Ability to meet all credentialing and privileging requirements established by the organization.

- Promptly disclose any licensing, credentialing, disciplinary, or other matter that could affect the individual's ability to perform the position.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with an anticipated commitment of approximately 4–8 hours per week. Hours may include on-site administrative or clinical oversight, meetings, chart or quality reviews, and reasonable availability for consultation. Specific scheduling will be coordinated based on the operational needs of the urgent care center.
