CNC Turret Punch Press Operator – Sheet Metal Manufacturing

Position Overview
This role is responsible for producing precision sheet metal parts by setting up and operating CNC turret punch presses in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Operators will perform multiple setups per shift, run both short‑cycle and long‑cycle production jobs, and ensure parts meet strict quality and dimensional standards. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, excellent decision‑making skills, and experience working in a sheet metal job shop or contract manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
*
Set up and operate CNC turret punch presses to produce sheet metal components
*
Retrieve programs, install tooling, and perform complete machine setup
*
Start up and shut down machines safely and correctly
*
Maximize part output by working efficiently and maintaining steady production flow
*
Perform multiple setups per shift for both prototype and production runs
*
Change, maintain, and understand turret punch press tooling
*
Check part accuracy using blueprints, calipers, and precision measuring tools
*
Work with automated material loading systems
*
Edit G‑code when required
*
Work from blueprints, sketches, and customer samples for prototype production
*
Make sound decisions regarding tooling, setup, and part quality
*
Perform repetitive physical tasks including standing, bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting
*
Work in varying plant temperatures (hot or cold)
*
Maintain excellent attendance and reliability
Job Duties Include (but are not limited to):
*
Perform basic preventive maintenance and cleaning of machines and work areas
*
Collaborate with maintenance technicians to diagnose equipment issues
*
Continuously monitor cutting performance and make adjustments as needed
*
Read material tags and work orders; select correct materials
*
Move raw materials and finished parts using pallet jacks or forklifts
*
Count, record, and report daily production activity
*
Separate cut parts from scrap and maintain organized part flow
*
Work effectively in a fast‑paced production environment
*
Collaborate with engineering staff and other machine operators
*
Lift up to 75 lbs throughout the shift
*
Follow all safety rules and maintain a clean, safe work environment
Required Experience
*
Prior experience in a sheet metal job shop or contract manufacturing environment
*
Strong understanding of CNC turret punch press operation
*
Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools
*
Experience with automated material loading systems
*
Ability to edit G‑code
*
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills

Pre‑Employment Testing Requirements

Standard ruler measurement test
*

Length and width identification on a diagram

Basic addition and subtraction using a calculator
