About the Firm:
Most law firms make money when things go wrong. We built this firm to do the opposite.
We help business owners stay out of legal problems, not just react to them. Through proactive legal strategy and our “Clean Legal Bill of Health” model, we identify risks before they become disputes, and give clients clear, practical guidance to run stronger businesses.
This approach only works with the right kind of attorney: someone who understands the real cost of litigation and believes there is a better way to serve clients.
We are intentionally building a small, high-performing team. We hire carefully, because each person has a meaningful impact on the firm and our clients. You won’t be one of many; you’ll be one of a few.
We are not looking for someone who simply wants a job. We are looking for someone who sees what we are building, believes in it, and wants to be part of it long-term, with the potential to grow into a leadership or partner-level role as the firm expands.
If that sounds like the practice of law you’ve been waiting for someone to build, we think you’ll like what comes next.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Business Attorney who thinks like an owner, not just a service provider. Experience matters, and 5+ years in business law is a plus, but mindset matters more: if you have the judgment, curiosity, and drive we’re looking for, we’ll weigh that heavily against a specific number of years on paper. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working proactively with clients and helping them avoid problems, not just solve them after the fact.
Experience in litigation earlier in your career is strongly preferred. The right candidate understands firsthand the cost, stress, and inefficiencies of disputes and is motivated to guide clients toward smarter, preventative decisions.
You will play a key role in advising clients, drafting and reviewing business documents, and leading our “Clean Legal Bill of Health” process. You will manage matters independently while collaborating with a small, high-performing team.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to do excellent legal work while also contributing to the growth and evolution of the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Advisory & Proactive Strategy
- Advise clients on business law matters with a focus on risk prevention, compliance, and long-term strategy.
- Translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for business owners.
- Lead and take ownership of “Clean Legal Bill of Health” audits to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities.
- Help clients make informed business decisions—not just legal ones.
Transactional Work
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, business agreements, and commercial leases.
- Handle entity formations, governance, and corporate structuring matters.
- Prepare and review internal policies, operating agreements, and compliance-related documents.
- Conduct legal research and apply findings in a practical, business-focused way.
Matter Management & Execution
- Independently manage multiple client matters, deadlines, and priorities.
- Ensure high-quality work product with strong attention to detail and consistency.
- Track progress and proactively communicate updates to clients and team members.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflows.
Client Experience & Communication
- Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with clients.
- Lead client meetings and strategic discussions.
- Ensure clients feel informed, supported, and confident in their legal position.
Technology & Innovation
- Actively use AI tools and technology to improve efficiency and enhance client service.
- Continuously explore ways to leverage AI in drafting, research, and workflows.
- Understand that your value as an attorney lies in judgment, strategy, and decision-making, not just output.
Process Improvement & Firm Growth
- Identify opportunities to improve internal systems, workflows, and client experience.
- Contribute to a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Play a meaningful role in the firm’s long-term growth and direction.
Qualifications:
- Active license to practice law in California or Utah (required).
- Strong business law experience (5+ years preferred; prior litigation experience strongly preferred), though candidates with less tenure and the right mindset are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage matters independently while exercising good judgment on when to collaborate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and consistent follow-through.
- Business-minded approach to legal advice.
- Active, demonstrated use of AI tools in your legal work, or, if you’re newer to it, a specific and credible plan for how you’ll close that gap quickly.
- Alignment with the firm’s values of client service, ownership, integrity, and growth.
This Role Is Not a Fit If:
- You are primarily interested in litigation or reactive legal work.
- You are looking for a traditional “associate” role with limited ownership or responsibility.
- You want a predictable, low-accountability environment.
- You are resistant to using technology or AI in your workflow.
- You are not interested in contributing to the growth and evolution of a firm.
- You see feedback on your work as personal criticism rather than part of getting better.
Pay:
Competitive base salary based on experience and fit, plus meaningful performance-based bonuses tied to individual contribution, client impact, and firm growth. High performers have the opportunity to significantly increase total compensation over time.
Benefits:
- Remote work.
- 15 days PTO per year (accrual basis), available after 90 days.
- $500 per month (after 30 days of employment) toward health benefits (medical, dental, vision).
- Life insurance policy ($50K).
- Retirement plan with a designated firm matching amount.
- Paid holidays, including: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday after, Christmas Day.
- Professional development support and learning resources.
- Collaborative, growth-oriented team environment.
Success in This Role Looks Like:
- Clients feel confident, supported, and proactive in managing legal risk.
- Potential issues are identified and addressed before they become problems.
- Matters are handled efficiently with strong attention to detail.
- Deadlines are met and communication is clear and consistent.
- You take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks.
- You play a meaningful role in the firm’s growth and direction over time.
If this sounds like the firm you’ve been hoping existed, we would love to hear from you.
