Job Title/Position: Teacher, ECSE Special Education Department/School: Assigned campus
(ACE Campus)
Pay Information: Teacher Compensation Plan, with Supervised By: Principal
incentive of up to $10,000,
contingent on grant award

Primary Purpose:
ECSE teachers on an ACE campus provide special education students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill
their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Demonstrated record of accomplishment of achieving significant student growth.
Qualifications (Education/Certification/Experience):
Bachelor’s degree and valid Texas teaching certificate in Early Childhood Generalist; Special Education and ESL Certifications. Applicants selected for a
position will be required to sign an annual stipend agreement and are ineligible for intra-district transfers for 3 years after signing the initial stipend
agreement
Major Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff members to develop IEPs through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned;
Participate in ARD committee meetings: meet timelines as indicated in the ARD paperwork, student IEP and PISD policies and procedures.
2. Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required; plan
and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs
of students assigned.
3. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
4. Provide and supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP; assume responsibility and participate in extracurricular
activities as appropriate.
5. Create a classroom environment conducive to active and successful student learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional
development of students; manage student behavior; consult district regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
6. Implement the Early Childhood Scope and Sequence and modify the material as appropriate for all students in the classroom.
7. Maintain student confidentiality and professionalism.
8. Establish and maintain effective open communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators; participate in staff professional
development activities.
9. Provide leadership and guidance with instructional practice for the educational associates.
10. Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Financial incentive, or stipend, is paid for the time-intensive work included in this model such as:
1. An extended school day to allow increased time for literacy and numeracy instruction;
2. An additional 2 hours per week after school for professional learning, tutoring, intervention, enrichment
3. Up to 40 hours of professional learning during the Summer break;
4. Strong partnerships with parent and community organizations.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures, including special education
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of best practice in Early Childhood including current research
Skill in effectively managing a classroom and student behavior
Skill in communicating effectively with others
Skill in differentiation of instruction for various student needs
Skill in working with various forms of equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, assistive technology, and printers
Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to, email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets
Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments
Knowledge of the Pre – K guidelines
Experience working with typically developing and preschool age children with special needs
Knowledge of low and high assistive technology strategies to enhance language development
Knowledge and skill working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as working with students with a variety of disabilities
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise assigned teacher assistant(s)
Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):
Maintain emotional control under stress; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; regular heavy lifting of students; must be able to
lift and/or carry at least 50 lbs independently and over 50 lbs with assistance. May need to sit on the floor, kneel or crawl for various classroom
activities.
