About the Role
Seeking a talented and accomplished Senior Structural Engineer with 10–15 years of related experience to join the Washington, DC office of BKV Group.
In this role, you will lead the structural design, analysis, and documentation across multi-family housing, commercial, and local government developments ranging from $10M to $250M in construction scope. You will work on complex urban and greenfield projects featuring high-rise concrete and steel, post-tensioned slabs, deep foundations, cold-formed steel, historic restorations, and seismic design. As a senior technical leader, you will sign and seal engineering packages, manage disciplinary project budgets, coordinate interdisciplinary design workflows, and mentor junior engineers and designers.
Key Responsibilities
Meet directly with clients, developers, and project owners to determine structural requirements and present engineering options.
Perform and oversee the preparation of structural engineering calculations, 3D models, analysis, and construction documentation for technical accuracy and code compliance.
Sign and seal engineering drawings, calculations, and technical specifications as the licensed engineer for assigned projects.
Manage disciplinary budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables across the structural project lifecycle.
Coordinate structural engineering designs with architecture, MEP, landscape architecture, interior design, and construction administration teams.
Provide technical leadership, coaching, and work direction to Junior Engineers, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and Structural Designers.
Perform quality assurance reviews adhering to established company QA/QC guidelines and lead post-project lessons-learned sessions.
Collaborate with the Director of Structural Engineering on local DC structural team scheduling, interviews, and onboarding of new technical staff.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Experience: 10 to 15 years of structural engineering design experience on complex commercial, multi-family housing, or civic/government projects.
Building Codes & Standards: Advanced proficiency with the International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, and material-specific design standards for concrete (ACI), structural steel (AISC), wood (NDS), and masonry (TMS).
Engineering Software: Proficiency with industry structural design and analysis suites such as RISA 3D/Floor, RAM Steel/Concept, ADAPT (FloorPro/Edge/Matt), Enercalc, WoodWorks, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Communication: Strong professional writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to clients, public officials, and project stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering.
Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
Hands-on BIM modeling experience with Autodesk Revit.
Proven experience with high-rise concrete/steel framing, post-tensioned slabs, deep foundation systems, and historic structure restorations.
