Job Overview
The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, utensils, cookware, and dishware while supporting the culinary team in delivering an exceptional dining experience. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and in compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dishwashing and Sanitation
- Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment using commercial dishwashing equipment and manual cleaning methods when necessary.
- Ensure all cleaned items are properly dried, stored, and readily available for kitchen and banquet operations.
- Maintain proper sanitation procedures in accordance with local health department regulations and hotel standards.
Kitchen Cleanliness
- Keep the dishwashing area clean, organized, and free of debris throughout the shift.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors, remove trash, clean floor mats, and assist with maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Clean and sanitize sinks, counters, shelving, and other kitchen work areas as assigned.
Waste Management
- Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the kitchen and food service areas.
- Dispose of waste properly while following recycling and environmental procedures when applicable.
- Maintain cleanliness around dumpsters and refuse areas.
Equipment Maintenance
- Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals are handled, stored, and used safely according to manufacturer guidelines.
Team Support
- Assist cooks and kitchen staff with basic food preparation or kitchen tasks as directed.
- Transport clean dishes, cookware, and supplies to appropriate storage areas.
- Help maintain adequate inventory of clean dishes and kitchen equipment during busy meal periods and banquet events.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- Report safety hazards, equipment concerns, or accidents immediately to management.
Customer Service
- Support the culinary and banquet teams by ensuring clean equipment is always available to provide guests with an exceptional dining experience.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work collaboratively with all hotel departments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous dishwashing, stewarding, or kitchen experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and sanitation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to maintain a consistent work schedule.
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a hot, humid, and fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Manual dexterity to safely operate kitchen and dishwashing equipment.
Working Conditions
This position requires flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and banquet events as business demands. The Dishwasher works in a commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, moisture, cleaning chemicals, and moderate noise levels. Frequent standing, lifting, and repetitive motions are required throughout the shift.
