The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Maintenance Worker to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. This position reports directly to the Superintendent. General duties include that of mowing, watering, fertilizing, applying pesticides, fixing irrigation issues, and various other cultural practices within the environment. This position will report to work at Burke Lake Golf Course but may work at any of the other parks within the Managed Parks section as needed. Under the direction of the Superintendent, this position maintains the grounds turf and facilities of a golf course and applies pesticides, fertilizers and other grounds and turf management materials on site. Additionally, the position plants and prunes trees and shrubs on site; completes various landscape tasks including propagating beds, edging, mulching, and planting materials on site; reconstructs, edges, and fills sand traps on golf course. The position sets up golf course for play including changing holes, rotating tee markers, servicing water cooler and ball washers, and removing trash; manually irrigates turf and ornamentals on site. Operates various golf course grounds maintenance and mowing equipment and specialized turf management equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:-
Experience with: Riding mowers, Push mowers, Power tools Grounds maintenance equipment, power/hand, Tractor operation, Towing trailers,

Experience applying fertilizers and pesticides to turfgrass.

Experience in golf course maintenance

Custodial experience and Grounds maintenance.

Registered Technician pesticide license.

Driver's license

Experience in the operation of medium/light motorized equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift supplies, boxes and materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be sufficiently mobile to operate push mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, climb on and off tractors, riding mowers, use various hand tools. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
