Schedule: Must be available weekends, evenings, and holidays (Closed on Sundays)
Job Overview:
Rita’s on the River is seeking a dedicated and experienced kitchen professional to lead our dynamic back-of-house team as Kitchen Manager I. Located on the iconic San Antonio River Walk, we are a high-volume Tex-Mex restaurant serving locals, tourists, and large groups alike. The ideal candidate will not only ensure daily kitchen operations run smoothly but also bring experience in coordinating food production for large events, catering, and private functions. This role is crucial to maintaining the high standards our guests expect while improving systems for efficiency and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all daily kitchen operations, including food prep, line execution, cleanliness, and inventory

Manage and train kitchen staff to ensure consistent quality, portion control, and efficiency

Create prep lists, production schedules, and station assignments based on business volume and events

Lead food production for large-scale events and private dining, ensuring timeliness and quality

Ensure food safety, sanitation, and health code compliance at all times

Collaborate with front-of-house leadership to ensure smooth communication and service

Monitor food and labor costs, assist with ordering, and vendor management

Address equipment issues and coordinate maintenance or repair as needed

Lead by example, fostering a positive and productive kitchen culture

Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

5+ years of kitchen management experience in a fast paced restaurant environment

Proven ability to manage food service for large events, banquets, or catering orders

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

In-depth knowledge of Tex-Mex cuisine, hig-volume experience, and casual dining.

Excellent understanding of food safety and sanitation practices

General knowledge of P&L, Staffing, and Kitchen Expenses

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Current TABC & Food Handler Management Certification
- Food Allergen Certification a plus

This position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs as needed; and safely move throughout kitchen, dining, storage, and service areas. The role may include repetitive movement, frequent guest and team communication, and work during high-volume service periods. Employees may be exposed to heat, cold, noise, wet or slippery surfaces, cleaning products, and other conditions common to restaurant operations.
