Infection Preventionist Job Description:
· Directs the infection control activities in the Health Care facility. Conducts infection control surveillance, coordinates and implements infection control precautions, monitors, and evaluates the infection control process
· Other responsibilities will be to educate personnel about infection prevention and control measures and the development of policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet OSHA, public health department, and CDC requirements
· Monitors facility on ongoing basis for compliance with appropriate infection control measures; institutes measures to correct unsafe and unsanitary practices
· Investigates resident/employee exposure to communicable diseases and participates in outbreak investigations making recommendations to control such outbreaks and notifies appropriate city and state health officials in accordance with departmental procedures and state regulations
· Participates in development, evaluation and revision of all appropriate policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with infection control guidelines
· Provides infection control in-service education to staff to communicate current infection control policies and procedures as well as any changes and/or new developments.
· Participates in QAPI program and attends monthly meetings
· Coordinates employee health screens and annual influenza immunization
· Serve as Respirator Program Administrator (RPA) or assigns a designee to serve as RPA, and oversee the Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) for the community as outlined by OSHA's respiratory protection standard
· Registered Nurse license (required)
· Associates of Practitioners of Infection Control Registration (APIC) (Preferred)
· 2-4 years of infectious control, nursing or related training or experience
· Knowledge of statistics, research design, adult infectious diseases, nosocomial infections surveillance, interpretation of microbiology data
· Ability to respond, investigate, identify and problem-solve infection control issues requiring immediate and decisive action
· Knowledge of HIPPA rules and regulations and of regulations and guidelines governing long-term care
· Strong management skills to provide guidance and direction, set performance standards and monitor performance of subordinates
