Childcare Provider
Reports to: Director of Religious Education
Commitment: Part-time – 4 hours per week. Sunday mornings 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Occasional Sundays until 2pm.
Additional Friday nights for events (approximately 4x/year.)
Status: $19.50-21/hour. Starting date as soon as possible; open until filled.
Position Summary
The UU Church of Boulder offers nursery care during our 9am services (ages 0-2.5) and Childcare during our 11am services (ages 0-5y.o.). We typically have about 5 kids in our nursery or childcare space at a time with 2 adults. You would be one of 2 adults in the space.
4x/year we have Family's Events that include childcare with structured crafts and games on Friday evenings from 5-8:30pm.
Currently have a childcare and preschool sunday school staff of 3 people who have been at UUCB for several years and are seeking someone who's excited to join team of childcare professionals. This is an ideal position for someone who
- already works in early childhood education, but wants a simple, stable way to make some extra money,
- a college or graduate student who wants to build community and have a stable position while they're in school for a few years,
- someone who has experience babysitting or teaching and wants to add about $300-400/mo to their income
Core Responsibilities
- Make sure the nursery is ready for children and open at least 15 minutes before worship, event, or meeting begins.
- On Sunday mornings, supervise and care for children ages 0-4 years in the nursery. You will often be working alongside volunteers. We follow the rule of three at UUCB (any time an adult is with a child there must be a third person present), so working well with volunteers is a must.
- Engage children in age-appropriate activities, supporting their growth and development.
- Follow childcare policies and procedures for wellness, safety, and communication.
- Maintain an attractive, sanitary, orderly space with all equipment and supplies in good condition.
- Conduct inventory checks and inform Director of Religious Education when supplies/equipment are needed
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the age-appropriate needs of children 0 to 4 years of age.
- Ability to be outgoing and friendly with people of all ages and identities, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Able to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, children, and families.
- Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Able to stoop and sit at children’s level.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Respect for, comfort with, and sensitivity to the liberal religious beliefs of Unitarian Universalism.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Experience and Education
- Previous experience working with children, especially infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) or higher
- First Aid & CPR certified or willing to obtain.
