Overview
Join our dynamic team as a DPW (Department of Public Works) Laborer and be a vital contributor to maintaining and improving our community’s infrastructure. In this energetic role, you will perform a variety of manual labor tasks related to road construction, highway maintenance, utility work, and civil infrastructure projects. Your efforts will help ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality public spaces for residents and visitors alike. Duties
- Operate heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks to assist in construction and maintenance activities.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as heavy lifting, trenching, paving, welding, and using power tools to support various civil infrastructure projects.
- Conduct utility locating to identify underground utilities prior to excavation or construction work.
- Maintain traffic control for work zones by setting up signage, cones, barriers, and directing traffic to ensure safety for workers and the public.
- Assist with highway maintenance activities including road repairs, shoulder grading, asphalt paving, and roadside cleanup.
- Follow safety protocols diligently in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and company policies.
- Support vehicle inspections and basic mechanical troubleshooting on equipment like Caterpillar machinery to ensure optimal operation.
- Collaborate with team members on construction projects by adhering to project plans and safety standards.
- Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively while maintaining a safe work environment on construction sites.
Qualifications
- Prior experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, or similar machinery is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment operation including Caterpillar machinery is advantageous.
- Strong construction site experience with a focus on road construction or highway maintenance projects.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks involving heavy lifting and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with traffic control procedures for work zones and safety protocol adherence is essential.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and experience with power tools required for equipment maintenance and repair tasks.
- Valid commercial truck driver’s license or ability to obtain one in accordance with FMCSA regulations is a plus.
- Excellent teamwork skills combined with a proactive attitude toward safety and quality workmanship.
- Experience working on civil infrastructure projects within a municipal or government setting is desirable.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
