OSV is the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast, showcasing a rural New England town of the 1830s across more than 200 scenic acres.
Essential functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Support daily Horse Program operations, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and observing animals for health and wellness
- Assist with daily horse‑drawn ride experiences for visitors
- Engage visitors through historical interpretation and educational programming
- Greet, orient, and provide information to guests to enhance their museum experience
- Work toward mastery of historical content and practical skills related to the Horse Program
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all visitors
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all interactions
- Assist with developing tours, routes, and programs that enhance the visitor experience
- Participate in programs for a wide range of audiences including families, students, interns, and lifelong learners
- Use a variety of interpretive techniques such as demonstrations, hands‑on activities, tours, and participatory learning
- Collaborate with the Museum Education Department on special programs and initiatives
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings required
- Evening programs may include Christmas by Candlelight, Phantoms and Fire, and other special events
- Occasional travel to partner institutions (e.g., Coggeshall Farm Museum)
- Regularly lift and carry items up to 50 lbs, with occasional heavier lifting
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around large animals for extended periods

- Horse and/or large‑animal experience preferred (not required)
- Experience working with the public in a museum, educational, or interpretive setting preferred (e.g., museums, 4‑H, education programs)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse audiences and teams
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and accessibility
- Associate’s degree in Agriculture or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
