Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and other related needs in various settings, including group homes and assisted living facilities. Your primary goal will be to enhance the quality of life for those you support by promoting independence, dignity, and community integration.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Provide support in community integration activities, encouraging participation in social events and outings.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to the unique needs of each person served.
- Facilitate communication between individuals and their families or guardians to ensure effective support.
- Monitor and document progress towards goals, reporting any changes in behavior or health status.
- Assist with heavy lifting when necessary to ensure the safety and comfort of individuals during transfers or mobility assistance.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses and other healthcare professionals, to provide comprehensive care.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of home community care practices and group home environments is beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for assisting individuals with mobility needs.
- Proficient in meal preparation and understanding dietary restrictions for individuals in care.
