The Coating Process Operator supports the seed enhancement production process using seed technology processes that meet predetermined quality standards for internal and external customers. The role coats seeds using basic seed technology processes in accordance with established quality requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
Coating
- Coat basic products, including lettuce, carrot, tomato, and onion, produced at the production location to meet predetermined quality specifications.
- Perform dry sizing or pesticide coating as required.
- Follow the daily pelleting schedule by reviewing it each evening before leaving to confirm that seed and orders are ready for the next morning.
- Confirm daily work by reviewing the pelleting schedule first thing each day.
- Prepare for the pelleting process by following procedures and checking the coating card against the seed to ensure the correct seed is being processed.
- Ensure all equipment and seed tubs are clean to prevent seed contamination.
- Report all equipment problems to the pelleting foreman to help prevent downtime.
- Weigh all fungicides, colors, and other additives while following proper safety, double-check, and application procedures.
- Verify all dryer boxes and dryer trays are clean before seed transfer and follow drying procedures.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand seed manufacturing technology and remain constantly aware of the product and potential contamination. Alert the supervisor to any issues with seed, coating, recovery, or related processes.
- Maintain a safe work environment by using required protective equipment to prevent injury to yourself and others working nearby.
- Work in other areas of production and on weekends, overtime, holidays, or different shifts as required.
- Use ISO Work Instructions for all processes and procedures performed.
- Report unsafe conditions or situations to the supervisor immediately.
- Support other departments as needed.
Who We’re Looking For
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of one year of production experience.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to calculate percentages and use the metric system.
- Forklift and pallet jack certification or experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent attendance, which is crucial to the team’s success.
- Computer skills preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
Education and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.

This on-site position is located in Salinas, CA.
Hourly Pay: $21.63
This range reflects the base salary the company reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, experience, education, and skill level. Additional compensation, such as annual bonuses or other incentives, may be offered based on eligibility and company policies.
