Cabinet Technologies is seeking an experienced Custom Cabinet Shop Lead / Lead Cabinetmaker to join our team.
This is a hands-on production and leadership position for an experienced cabinetmaker who can work alongside our shop team while providing day-to-day direction, technical guidance, and quality oversight.
This is not a Shop Manager position. The Shop Lead works under the direction of the Shop Manager/Operations Manager and serves as a go-to person on the shop floor to help keep production organized, efficient, and moving according to schedule.
Responsibilities
- Work hands-on in the fabrication and assembly of custom cabinetry and millwork
- Provide day-to-day direction and guidance to cabinet builders and shop personnel
- Help organize and prioritize daily production assignments as directed by management
- Review shop drawings, plans, cut lists, and project specifications before and during production
- Ensure cabinets are being constructed according to approved drawings and company quality standards
- Answer technical questions and assist team members with cabinet construction methods and problem-solving
- Perform quality-control checks throughout the fabrication and assembly process
- Identify errors, missing information, material issues, or potential production problems and communicate them to management
- Help keep projects moving according to established production schedules
- Coordinate with CNC, assembly, finishing, and other shop personnel as needed
- Assist with complex builds, custom components, modifications, and problem areas
- Train and mentor less-experienced cabinet builders
- Reinforce proper construction techniques and company workmanship standards
- Help ensure tools, equipment, materials, and work areas are properly maintained
- Promote an organized, productive, and safe shop environment
- Lead by example through reliability, productivity, craftsmanship, and teamwork
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional cabinetmaking experience preferred
- Strong experience with custom cabinetry and architectural millwork
- Previous Lead Cabinetmaker or similar leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of cabinet construction, assembly, hardware, materials, and joinery
- Ability to read and interpret detailed shop drawings and specifications
- Experience with frameless and/or face-frame cabinet construction
- Strong understanding of measurements, tolerances, and cabinet installation requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and management
- Comfortable providing direction and constructive feedback to other shop employees
- Dependable and able to work productively with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced custom cabinet environment with changing priorities
What Makes Someone Successful in This Position?
The ideal Shop Lead is an experienced cabinetmaker first and a leader second.
You should be someone other cabinetmakers can go to when they have a question or run into a problem. You understand how cabinetry should be built, can spot issues before they become expensive mistakes, and aren't afraid to jump in and help get a project back on track.
We're looking for someone who leads by example—not someone who simply delegates work.
