Job Summary
The Shop Scenic Studios is seeking to hire an experienced, motivated and goal oriented individual to step into a full-time project management position within our company. This individual will oversee and direct a scenic project’s scope, budget, financial performance and manage the flow through the fabrication from bidding to technical design, project kickoff, purchasing, delivery, installation and project closeout. Additionally, this individual will set client expectations and set daily/weekly goals for the shop floor deliverables
Responsibilities
Functions: - Develop and manage project budget, updating budget throughout project. - Write and update scope of work document(s) that details engineering, construction and scenic finish details. - Draft, maintain and distribute project schedule for all departments, clients and vendors. - Generate and distribute shop work orders and fabrication drawings. - Work closely with company ownership, Director of Business Development and department foremen in the scheduling and management of work in technical design, carpentry, steel, electrics, paint, warehouse and logistics departments. - See big picture and be steps ahead for a successful project. - Interface with clients, vendors and freelancers as needed. - Coordinate vendors and manage subcontractors. - Generate purchase and work orders. - Oversee technical design drawings to ensure client’s have comprehensive information of agreed scope and fabrication shop has proper information to begin and execute construction. - Write and update scope of work - Produce regular status reports and maintain communication with client and fabrication staff. - Schedule and manage all client, TD and Designer shop visits and notify all necessary personnel. - Track and forecast project costs. - Generate, submit, track (capture) and secure project change orders with both client and finance department. - Document & photograph scenic builds for distribution to clients during build phase. - Coordinate, lead/direct, manage and support any onsite labor. - Bid jobs and attend meetings as assigned by supervisor. - Must be punctual with client and vendor communication. - Assist with generating sales leads.
Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in theatrical / entertainment construction and project management. - Working knowledge of metal, carpentry, painting techniques and practices. - Understanding of metal, wood and other materials used within the scenery construction industry. - Minimum of 3 years of experience leading and coordinating project installations. - Able to see big picture of a project start to finish. - Familiar with the various materials used daily in a scene shop. - Understands purchasing and accounting practices. - Able to generate quotations and generate formal contracts. - Comprehends material take-offs for projects. - Willing to assist with generating sales leads between assigned projects. - Be results oriented. - Demonstratable and proven high level of competency in managing projects in a relevant industry. - Have excellent organizational skills. - Ability to self-navigate and execute daily tasks and duties. - Be quality and cost conscious.
Excellent problem solving skills. - Possesses and applies excellent attention to detail in all duties. - Positive attitude and ability to work in teams. - Great leadership skills. - Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software. - Knowledge of various types of wood species that are utilized within the industry. - Be punctual with client correspondence and vendor communications. - Know’s graphics terminology and materials. - Is familiar with engineering submittals and [procedures. - Able to coordinate site electrical requirements. - Able to coordinate and lead site labor and subcontractors. - Be familiar with theatrical soft goods (types, details and rigging). - Familiar with automated effects. - Willingness to get familiar with local and national building codes. - Able to take on coordinating and leading temporary and permanents installations for live events, as well as commercial and hospitality projects. - Be able to travel as required. - Procure materials. - Interface with clients, vendors and freelance hires
Pay: $25.00 - $39.00 per hour
