Position Overview
The Head Stocker is responsible for leading the stocking team to ensure shelves are consistently stocked, organized, and presentation-ready. This role plays a critical part in store operations by supporting inventory flow, maintaining backroom organization, and ensuring a smooth transition of product from delivery to the sales floor.
Key Responsibilities Stocking Operations
- Oversee daily stocking activities to ensure shelves are fully stocked, faced, and properly organized
- Prioritize workload based on delivery schedules, sales demand, and store needs
- Ensure timely and accurate stocking of merchandise across all departments
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized aisles, coolers, and backroom areas
Inventory & Backroom Management
- Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying shipment accuracy
- Organize backstock for easy access and efficient replenishment
- Monitor out-of-stock items and communicate needs to department managers
- Support inventory control practices to reduce shrink and improve accuracy
Merchandising Support
- Ensure proper product rotation (FIFO) and code date compliance
- Maintain accurate shelf tags, pricing, and signage alignment
- Support display execution, seasonal sets, and promotional merchandising
Team Leadership
- Lead, train, and support stockers to ensure productivity and efficiency
- Delegate tasks and monitor completion of daily assignments
- Provide coaching and feedback to improve performance
- Foster a positive, team-focused work environment
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines
- Ensure safe handling of products, equipment, and lifting techniques
- Maintain compliance with store policies and operational standards
Qualifications
- Previous stocking or grocery experience preferred
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Exposure to varying temperatures (sales floor, cooler, freezer, backroom)
- Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
