Position Summary:
The Shipping Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and movement of bulk and packaged product at a 24/7 fertilizer/chemical loading operation. This role works as part of a crew under the direction of a Foreman and reports operationally to the Shipping Supervisor, performing rail car loading and switching, dry and liquid truck loading, bagging line operation, and material handling equipment operation in accordance with safety, quality, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload rail cars and bulk/liquid trucks per shipping orders and safety procedures.
- Operate a Trackmobile or similar equipment to spot and switch rail cars as directed.
- Operate forklifts, payloaders, and other heavy material handling equipment.
- Run and monitor the 50 lb bagging line, including packaging, palletizing, and stretch-wrapping product.
- Handle urea, fertilizer, and other chemical products in accordance with HAZMAT and site safety protocols.
- Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory documentation.
- Follow all company, client site, and OSHA safety policies, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout.
- Keep the work area, equipment, and loading zones clean and organized.
- Communicate effectively with the Foreman, Shipping Supervisor, and fellow crew members to meet daily production and shipping goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Shipping Supervisor.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work a rotating DuPont swing shift schedule in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug screening and background checks as required by the client site.
Preferred
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
- HAZMAT training/certification.
- Prior heavy equipment operation experience (payloader, Trackmobile, skid steer, or similar).
- Prior experience in a shipping, warehouse, rail, or industrial/chemical manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and work in and around rail cars, trucks, and bulk material handling equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE for the full duration of the shift.
