About the Role
Performs all aspects of the analytical chemistry work that determines the composition of customer materials. The role involves preparing samples and running analysis across ICP, OES, XRF, and LECO combustion instruments, along with corrosion and salt spray testing, with genuine latitude to develop and refine methods rather than simply follow them. The position reports to the Vice President of Operations and works independently within a small, collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare samples and perform chemical analysis to established work instructions — ICP, OES, XRF, and LECO carbon/sulfur and oxygen/nitrogen combustion
- Perform corrosion and salt spray testing as assigned
- Develop and refine ICP, OES, and combustion analysis methods and techniques
- Prepare etchants and acids in accordance with safety procedures, and keep glassware, vessels, and the work area clean and organized
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and inspection on the instruments operated
- Complete quality and inspection documentation accurately, and communicate results clearly to colleagues and customers
- Contribute to team problem-solving and to improvements in processes, procedures, and the work area
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in chemistry or a related discipline, two years of related technical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and demonstrated skill
- Working knowledge of applicable ASTM and ISO specifications
- Comfort with laboratory measuring equipment such as micrometers, analytical balances, and micropipettes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and similar programs
- Strong written and verbal communication in English, including the ability to interpret technical procedures and specifications, write clear reports, and explain results to customers and inspectors
- Able to work independently, recognize when a problem needs to be escalated, and work courteously with a wide range of people
- Valid driver's license with a record acceptable to our insurance carrier
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the laboratory, with occasional off-site testing at foundries or manufacturing facilities. The role involves extended periods of standing and sitting, frequent lifting up to 15 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 75 pounds. All required safety equipment — safety glasses, face shield, respirator, and chemical-resistant apron — is provided by Anderson Labs.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
