The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is seeking a compassionate and dependable Veterinary Receptionist to join our ARL Afford-a-Care Pet Clinics team. This role provides front-desk support, scheduling assistance, client communication, payment processing, and administrative support to help create a welcoming and efficient clinic experience for clients and their pets.
This is a great opportunity for someone with customer service, reception, scheduling, veterinary clinic, medical office, or administrative experience who enjoys helping people, staying organized, and being part of a mission-driven team.
Schedule:

36 - 40 hours per week

Availability Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Rotating half-day Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The ARL Afford-a-Care Pet Clinics are part of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Iowa’s largest nonprofit animal welfare organization. Through the clinics, the ARL extends its mission into the community by helping pet owners access trusted, affordable veterinary care for the animals they love. There are two locations that provide pets with quality, affordable, compassionate care. We offer preventative care, on-site blood work, radiographs, and surgery all at a more affordable rate to help pets stay in loving homes.

Greet clients and their pets and help create a welcoming clinic experience.

Answer phones, respond to questions, and provide information about clinic services and scheduling.

Schedule patient visits, follow-up appointments, and surgical procedures.

Prepare forms, files, and paperwork for appointments.

Process payments, issue receipts, balance transactions, and maintain accurate records.

Support clients during emotional or stressful situations with calm, compassionate communication.

Work closely with clinic staff to support smooth daily operations.

High school diploma or GED required.

Previous customer service, reception, scheduling, administrative, veterinary clinic, or medical office experience, preferred.

Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to stay calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

Comfort using phones, scheduling systems, payment processes, and basic computer programs.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
This position works in a busy veterinary clinic environment and may require sitting, standing, moving throughout the clinic, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. The role may involve exposure to animal odors, animal waste, moderate noise, zoonotic diseases, cleaning products, and the possibility of bites or scratches while following established safety procedures.
