As a civilian with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, an Electronics Technician is responsible for the maintenance, installation, and inspection of Operational Technology (OT) and industrial control systems at the Pittsburgh District’s 22 navigation lock and dam facilities and 16 flood risk management sites. Performs routine, periodic and emergency maintenance, configuration, testing, and auditing of industrial control and electrical equipment, which includes PLC and SCADA systems at field sites across the District. This role will develop and manage a system to track software versions and system functions. The position requires knowledge of electrical systems, OT, cybersecurity principles and practices for an OT environment, and integrated controls to work on various subsystems and/or individual components which form the overall integrated electronic control system for the locking process and reservoir/river levels.
· Maintain full knowledge of electronic and electrical systems and devices located at the facilities, i.e. PLCs, HMIs, remote input/output racks and circuits, relay and limit switches, sensing systems, proximity switches, transformers, generators, pressure transducers, 480V AC motors and controllers, variable frequency drives and controllers, camera systems, and electronic security systems.
· Travel to field operations to troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain automation assets by modifying PLCs and HMI applications.
· Maintain records and documentation on field work by completing field reports.
· Works as part of a team that is responsible for ensuring cybersecurity compliance on the OT, PLC and SCADA systems throughout the District.
· Proficient in troubleshooting and developing PLC ladder logic programs and HMI’s using Rockwell Automation Studio 5000, Schneider Electric Control Expert, and Innovate Pro Proficy iFIX.
· Monitor industrial control system network health and performance.
· Advanced industrial control system networking skills including architecture, design, cybersecurity, and troubleshooting.
· Strong understanding of Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
· Skilled in automation and device communication protocols: EtherNetIP, Modbus, ControlNet, and DeviceNet.
· Minimum five (5) years of experience with instrumentation and Rockwell Automation and Schneider Electric industrial control systems.
· Experience with 24V DC and 120V AC industrial control systems and up to 480V AC, 3-Phase power distribution systems.
· Strong working knowledge of modern instrumentation and control systems, including IoT and edge computing.
· Mechanical understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
· Experience in Automation, Systems, Software, or Process Engineering.
· Familiarity with data analytics, SQL, and database architecture.
· Knowledge of IoT principles and technologies.
· Ability to interpret plans, blueprints and shop drawings.
· Familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft productivity tools such as Visio, Word, and Excel.
Pay: $92,543.00 - $120,309.00 per year
