Whether you're helping reunite a lost pet with their family, assisting an owner through a difficult surrender decision, providing resources to community members, or ensuring animals receive immediate care and shelter, you'll play a vital role in creating positive outcomes for animals and the people who love them.

The Admissions Representative directly supports this mission by serving as the first point of compassionate care for animals and people alike. Through safe animal intake, thoughtful customer interactions, and effective problem-solving, you'll help ensure every animal receives the care they need while providing exceptional support to our community.

Provide compassionate, empathetic assistance to customers experiencing a wide range of emotions.

Answer questions and educate the public about animal sheltering, pet overpopulation, adoption processes, and available community resources.

Communicate professionally through phone, email, and in-person interactions.

Assist community partners and pet owners with animal intake, reunification, and service requests.
-
Resolve concerns efficiently while maintaining a positive customer experience.

Perform intake of stray, owned, surrendered, deceased, and community animals.

Triage animals and customers to determine appropriate services, including veterinary care or humane euthanasia.

Administer intake vaccinations for dogs and cats according to shelter protocols.

Assist with animal reclaims, licensing services, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, and lost-and-found pet services.

Document animal behavior observations using objective, accurate language.

Process customer payments, donations, refunds, and related transactions.

Maintain detailed and accurate records regarding animal intake, customer interactions, bite reports, and animal locations.

Schedule appointments and ensure data integrity within shelter software systems.

Work closely with Veterinary Services, Animal Care, Behavior, Population Management, Animal Law Enforcement, and Volunteer teams.

Support volunteers by modeling safe and humane animal handling practices.

Contribute stories and photos that help showcase HSPPR's lifesaving work to donors and the community.

Minimum one (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with animals in a shelter, kennel, veterinary clinic, grooming facility, pet store, daycare, farm, or similar setting.

Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

Experience successfully de-escalating difficult or emotionally charged situations.

Ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Comfortable working with animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical conditions.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Advanced customer service training.

Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, nutrition, and general care.

Professional animal handling experience.

Experience with Chameleon or other animal shelter management software.
This is an active role that combines customer service, administrative work, and animal handling. Candidates should be comfortable:

Lifting and moving animals and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

Standing and walking for extended periods.
-
Working around animals, animal allergens, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases.

Handling animals that may be fearful, stressed, or aggressive.

Working in a shelter environment with varying noise levels and weather conditions.
