Van Laan Construction is looking for a skilled Fleet Mechanic to help bring our fleet and equipment to a higher standard of readiness and reliability. This role supports everything from small equipment to trucks, trailers, loaders, and heavier diesel-powered equipment. No two days are the same. We are looking for someone who can diagnose, troubleshoot, document, and repair, not someone limited to basic maintenance tasks.

What Your Days Will Look Like:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair vehicle and equipment issues across a wide range of assets.
- Repair and maintain small engine, gas, diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, and equipment.
- Identify root causes of recurring issues, not just swap parts.
- Support operations through repairs in the field, communication, and education of operators when possible.
- Keep accurate maintenance and repair records utilizing our software tools.
- Update equipment information in company systems.
- Take ownership of organization of stock parts, tools, and shop areas.
- Help keep the shop clean, organized, and professional.
- Communicate clearly about repair status, priorities, parts needs, and downtime risks.
What We Are Looking For:
- Strong hands-on repair and troubleshooting experience.
- Confidence working on more than just light maintenance items.
- Experience with heavy equipment, diesel systems, hydraulics, and electrical diagnostics
- Comfortable using a computer for documentation, research, and equipment tracking.
- Self-starter, able to prioritize, problem-solve, and work without direct supervision.
- Willing to flex with the demands of the season.
- Construction, agriculture, fleet, or heavy equipment background is strongly preferred.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- A Chauffeur's License and clean driving record (we will assist with obtaining the chauffeur designation if needed)
