About Getaway Growth
Getaway Growth is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to expanding international educational access through mentorship, leadership development, and international experiential/immersive learning. We prepare students to become globally minded leaders by combining career readiness, intercultural competence, and international educational experiences.
Our mentorship program connects professionals from around the world with high school students preparing for international travel and exploring pathways including university, graduate school, technical and trade education, military service, entrepreneurship, and global careers.
Position Summary
Getaway Growth is seeking passionate professionals to serve as Global Citizen Mentors. We're seeking passionate professionals who believe in the transformative power of travel, cultural exchange, and mentorship. Whether you've lived abroad as an expatriate, studied overseas, worked internationally, traveled extensively, or simply understand how global experiences can shape perspectives, your story can inspire our students.
Ideal mentors are passionate about helping high school and college students from the United States and Kenya explore educational, professional, and international opportunities while developing the confidence to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
As a mentor, you will be paired with one student and meet virtually once per month to provide encouragement, career guidance, leadership development, and global perspective. Rather than following a rigid curriculum, mentors are encouraged to use Getaway Growth's monthly discussion themes as a guide while adapting conversations to each student's individual interests, aspirations, and goals.
Mentor Responsibilities
- Meet virtually with your assigned student once per month (30–60 minutes) from November 2026 through May 2027 (excluding December).
- Build a supportive, professional mentoring relationship grounded in trust, respect, and confidentiality.
- Help students identify academic, career, and personal goals while encouraging reflection and self-discovery.
- Share professional experiences, leadership lessons, and practical advice.
- Guide students through topics such as: Professional development, Resume and LinkedIn optimization, Personal branding, Interview preparation, College, Graduate School, Trade School, Military, Global opportunities, and Preparing for international travel and studying abroad
- Introduce students to resources, organizations, scholarships, internships, or career opportunities when appropriate.
- Communicate promptly if meetings need to be rescheduled.
- Complete brief mentor check-ins throughout the program.

- Passion for mentoring young people

- Reliable and able to commit to monthly meetings
- Previous mentoring experience
- Passion for travel
Time Commitment
- Six one-on-one virtual mentoring sessions
- 1hr per session
- Flexible scheduling between mentor and student
- Program runs from November 2026 through May 2027 (no meeting in December)
