Duties
- Install, maintain, splice and repair fiber optic cables using hand tools, power tools, and specialized splicing equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and cranes to access elevated or hard-to-reach areas safely.
- Perform fiber splicing to connect fibers accurately, ensuring optimal signal quality and minimal loss.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical diagrams, and network infrastructure blueprints to guide installation processes.
- Conduct cable routing through conduits, trenches, or aerial pathways following construction standards.
- Test fiber optic links using OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) devices and other testing tools to verify performance.
- Collaborate with telecommunication teams to install LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, telephony systems, and low voltage electrical wiring.
- Climb poles or ladders safely during installation or maintenance tasks while adhering to safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot network issues related to fiber optics, electrical systems, or computer networking components.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, including schematics updates, test results, and incident reports.
Experience
- Proven experience in field service roles within telecommunications or construction environments.
- Hands-on knowledge of fiber splicing techniques and the use of related tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation such as bucket trucks or cranes used in telecommunication installations.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, low voltage wiring, LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet cabling, and telephony infrastructure.
- Ability to read technical schematics and blueprints accurately for installation planning.
- Experience working with computer networking concepts including WAN configurations and IT infrastructure components.
- Physical capability to climb structures safely and perform manual tasks involving power tools and hand tools.

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
