Job Descriptions
The Locum Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for designing and optimizing radiation treatment plans that ensure the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy. Working collaboratively with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Radiation Therapists, the Medical Dosimetrist utilizes advanced treatment planning systems to develop accurate, high-quality plans that maximize tumor control while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. This is a temporary 1099 locum assignment supporting clinical operations during staffing needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Locum Medical Dosimetrist is expected to maintain the highest standards of patient care, treatment planning accuracy, and clinical efficiency. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and optimize external beam radiation therapy treatment plans using Eclipse or other treatment planning systems.
- Generate IMRT, VMAT, 3DCRT, SRS, SBRT, and other advanced treatment plans as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists to ensure treatment plans meet clinical objectives and dosimetric standards.
- Perform dose calculations and treatment plan evaluations while minimizing dose to surrounding healthy tissues and critical structures.
- Participate in plan review and quality assurance processes prior to treatment delivery.
- Maintain accurate treatment planning documentation in ARIA or other oncology information systems.
- Assist with CT simulation data preparation, image fusion, contour management, and treatment planning workflow.
- Review physician contours and verify treatment parameters before final plan approval.
- Communicate effectively with Radiation Therapists, Physicists, and physicians regarding treatment planning and patient care.
- Follow departmental policies, AAPM recommendations, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Adapt quickly to different clinical environments, workflows, and equipment during temporary assignments.
- Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality patient care.
- Maintain accurate records and complete documentation according to facility requirements.
- Perform all duties using proper safety practices and professional standards.
Working Conditions
The Locum Medical Dosimetrist works in a radiation oncology clinical environment and may interact with patients, physicians, Radiation Therapists, Medical Physicists, and other healthcare professionals. The position requires prolonged sitting while performing treatment planning, frequent computer use, occasional standing and walking throughout the department, and the ability to meet assignment-specific productivity expectations. The employee must follow all radiation safety, infection control, and facility policies throughout the assignment.
This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the role, which may include sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of equipment or materials, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands may vary depending on assignment and client-site requirements.
