We're looking for a coach. Not just a trainer.
The Lifting Legacy is a strength training studio in Lower Queen Anne, Seattle. We coach busy professionals who want to build real strength, move without pain, and actually understand what they're doing in the gym.
Our clients don't just get results. They learn how they're getting them, and they leave here more capable than when they arrived.
We're built on the barbell lifts, squat, bench, deadlift, and our coaches teach them from day one. Which means you need to know them, live them, and love coaching them.
People drive across Seattle to train here, and it's not because we're the closest option. It feels like home. That's not an accident. It's something every coach on this team builds every single day.
What This Role Looks Like
This is a part-time, on-site coaching position with real potential to grow into full-time based on performance and availability. You'll coach one-on-one sessions, design and manage individualized programs through our training portal, and be a present, engaged part of the gym floor.
We're genuinely open to coaches who are earlier in their career. We invest in developing people who have the right foundation and the right mindset, and all coaches go through a structured onboarding period. You'll have a team behind you, ongoing mentorship, and a standard we all hold each other to.
Schedules are built around sustainability. We take burnout seriously and we're intentional about making sure this job feels like something you can do long term. Not just at the start.
Core Responsibilities
- Coach one-on-one, partner, and small group sessions
- Design and manage individualized programs in our online training portal, and keep them updated as clients evolve
- Coach the barbell movements in every session with a focus on mechanics, safety, and long-term strength development
- Deliver real results. Measurable improvements in strength, reduced pain, improved body composition. Whatever that looks like for each person.
- Monitor progress and adjust programming as needed
- Provide nutritional guidance aligned with each client's goals
- Communicate consistently with clients between sessions
- Greet clients when they walk in and acknowledge them when they leave. Be present for everyone in the gym, not just the ones on your schedule.
- Be a teammate. That means showing up for monthly events, collaborating day to day, and contributing to the gym as a whole, not just your own client list.
- Keep the space clean and safe
- Keep growing. Your education, your coaching, your craft.
Requirements:
- Personal Training Certification from NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent... or a Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Availability to work weekday afternoons and evenings, 4–8pm. This is our busiest window and non-negotiable. Outside of that, schedules are flexible and built around you.
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Real, working knowledge of the barbell movements and the ability to coach them well
- Strong communication skills. You know how to read a room and respond to what's actually in front of you.
- Adaptability. The ability to read a session, adjust on the fly, and meet clients where they are.
- Minimum six-month commitment to support client consistency and team culture
Who Is the Right Fit:
You hold yourself to the same standard you hold your clients. You practice what you preach, in how you train, how you eat, how you show up. When a client is struggling, you notice. When something isn't working, you change it.
You say what you mean, do what you say, and don't cut corners. Integrity isn't a value you talk about. It's just how you operate.
You want to be part of something, not just employed by it. You say hi when people walk through the door, you know your clients' names and what's going on in their lives, and you stay a few minutes because the conversation matters, not because you're tracking it.
You care about the outcome, not just the session. You know the difference between a client who's progressing and one who's plateauing, and you act on it.
You understand there's always more to learn, and you're open to being told how.
Who Probably Isn't the Right Fit:
If you're looking for a place to clock in, run your sessions, and head out, this isn't it. Our clients feel the difference between a coach who's genuinely invested and one who's just going through the motions. So does our team.
Community is a big part of what we've built. Everybody knows everybody, we know what's going on in their lives, and we show up for them in small ways every day. If that doesn't appeal to you, you probably won't enjoy it here.
Why The Lifting Legacy:
We're not a big box gym or a franchise. We're a small, intentional community that people show up for, week after week, year after year, because what we've built here actually means something.
Our clients lift heavy, get out of pain, hit PRs they didn't think were possible, and learn to train for the rest of their lives. Coaching here means you see that change up close, every day.
This is also a place that takes care of the people on the team. Structured onboarding, ongoing mentorship, and colleagues who genuinely want you to succeed.
Our goal has never been to make clients dependent on us. We want them to leave here stronger and more knowledgeable. That's the legacy. A coach who believes in that is the kind of coach we're looking for.
