Sample Prep Technician (Hands-On / Maker & Destroyer)
Akron Rubber Development Laboratory – Barberton, OH
We’re looking for someone who likes working with their hands, figuring things out, and isn’t afraid to tear something apart to get the job done.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll take real rubber and plastic parts—sometimes simple, sometimes weird shapes bonded to metal or fabric—and break them down into clean, uniform test samples.
You’re part maker, part destroyer.
What You’ll Do
· Cut, skive, and band-saw rubber and plastic parts into standard test pieces (rectangles, strips, “dog-bone” samples)
· Take apart tough or odd-shaped materials and figure out how to make them usable
· Turn messy, irregular parts into precise, clean samples ready for testing
· Run basic tests (we’ll train you):
o Salt spray (corrosion)
o Drop testing (impact / puncture)
o Carbon arc (weathering)
o Conveyor belt (strength / break)
What We’re Looking For
· Someone who likes working with their hands
· Strong problem solver—you don’t quit when it gets tricky
· Willing to ask questions and figure it out
· Good attention to detail
· Shows up with energy and a good attitude
No degree needed.
Experience in a shop, trades, or machining is a plus (we can teach the rest).
