We are looking for a Tree Climber to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in climbing and pruning trees, as well as the ability to use specialized tools and equipment. This position requires a high level of physical fitness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in all weather conditions. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team to ensure that all safety protocols are followed.
What you'll do:
- Climb and work aloft using proper rigging, roping, and rope-and-saddle techniques for pruning, trimming, and removals
- Perform technical removals, including notching, back-cutting, and controlled dismantling of trees in tight or sensitive areas (near homes, power lines, fences, etc.)
- Set up and manage rigging systems for lowering limbs and sections safely
- Conduct pre-climb hazard assessments — checking tree health, lean, decay, and surrounding obstacles before ascending
- Operate and maintain climbing gear, saddles, ropes, and related safety equipment
- Work closely with the ground crew to coordinate drops, chipping, and cleanup
- Help operate a bucket truck or aerial lift when the job calls for it
- Drive company trucks to and from job sites as needed
- Follow all OSHA and ANSI Z133 safety standards on every job
- Maintain a clean, professional worksite and represent OBrien Tree Care well with customers
What we need from you:
- Proven climbing experience (removals, pruning, rigging)
- Minimum of 3 year climbing experience
- Demonstrate proper rigging techniques
- Must hold, or be able to obtain, a DOT medical card (medical examiner's certificate) to legally operate our larger trucks in PA — a CDL is a plus but not required
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Reliable, safety-focused, able to work as part of a team
- Valid driver's license
- Must be team-oriented and friendly
- Must be able to put safety first and follow all company PPE requirements
- Have knowledge of tree species and their characteristics.
- Have knowledge of pruning techniques and safety protocols.
- Be able to use a variety of climbing equipment such as harnesses, ropes, ladders, and pulleys.
- Be able to identify potential hazards in the work environment.
- Be able to lift heavy objects.
