About Institute on Aging
The Institute on Aging serves older adults and adults with disabilities across California. Our On Lok PACE program (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) keeps participants connected to their community, their independence, and the care they need. Our front desk is the welcoming face of the program.
About the role
As our PACE Receptionist, you are the first point of contact for participants, families, and visitors. You will triage incoming calls, warmly greet and safely sign in and out everyone who enters and leaves, support program security, and keep the front desk and lobby running smoothly. This is a part-time, onsite role, 16 hours per week on Wednesday and Thursday, in a warm but fast-paced environment serving older adults, many of whom live with dementia.
What you will do
- Answer and triage the main phone line, direct calls, take accurate messages, and log information such as medications.
- Warmly greet participants, families, and visitors, and make sure every person who enters or leaves is signed in and out, a critical safety responsibility in a dementia-care setting.
- Support program security, including camera monitoring, access control, the delayed egress alarm, and WanderGuard alerts for participants with wander-risk behaviors.
- Keep the lobby neat, safe, and welcoming, and receive mail and deliveries promptly.
- Use digital systems including an electronic health record, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams, and help maintain reports, records, and forms.
- Coordinate communication among van escorts, the transportation team, center workers, the interdisciplinary team, and PACE leadership.
What you bring (required)
- Fluency in Cantonese.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of customer service, clerical, or reception experience.
- At least one year of experience working with older adults.
- Ability to type 50 wpm accurately and comfort with everyday office technology.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Patience, warmth, and genuine compassion for older adults living with dementia, with the ability to stay calm, set gentle boundaries, and de-escalate.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and the flexibility to multitask in a busy environment.
- A collaborative, team-first approach.
Preferred
- Experience in a PACE, adult day health, or memory-care setting.
- Additional language skills such as Mandarin or Spanish.
What we offer
A meaningful role at the heart of a mission-driven program, a supportive team, and the chance to make every participant's day a little brighter.
