The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Information about the role:
This position is in the Office of Constituency Engagement within the Division of Survivor Affairs. The Office of Constituency Engagement also includes: Volunteer Services, Government/Congressional Relations and the Division of Council Relations. Survivor Affairs coordinates the work and activities of survivors who volunteer at the Museum; organizes programs at the Museum for and involving survivors, including The Echoes of Memory Project; provides links to Museum and other resources for survivors and their families; arranges virtual and in person opportunities for Holocaust survivors to speak, to groups virtually, both domestically and abroad, and at the Museum.
The incumbent also will provide support to the overall Museum’s volunteer corps.
This is a full-time donation (non-Federal), paid with the Museum’s private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is a one (1) year term position located in Washington, DC.
Duties and Responsibilities for the role:
- Schedules and coordinates logistics of survivor and other department meetings to include: managing meeting invitations; organizing guest speakers; creating and distributing meeting minutes and recordings of virtual or hybrid meetings.
- Facilitates the USHMM Speakers Bureau and other department efforts by creating outlines and presentations that guide and adapt content to suit both in person and virtual audiences as well as maintaining records of Speakers Bureau statistics.
- Manages Survivor Affairs correspondence to include: creating mailings; responding to correspondence; managing incoming mail and responding or routing as needed.
- Maintains oversight of the Survivor Desk by creating volunteer schedules, facilitating conversations between survivors and the public,stocking supplies and tracking volunteer hours.
- Monitors, maintains and updates the Survivor Affairs web pages to include: creating and posting survivor volunteer biographies; ensuring current and accurate content; contributing to ongoing changes and participating in projects to link all survivor content.
- Maintains the volunteer database, develops, administers and analyzes volunteer surveys and uses the results to recommend improvements to the volunteer program.
- Coordinates survivor involvement in Museum special events including but not limited to, providing information about events, managing registrations and greeting participants.
- Develops original and innovative content, such as videos and graphics, in partnership with Survivors and other Museum offices.
- Monitors Survivor Affairs media to include: replying to comments and inquiries; creating engaging and educational messaging and elevating issues to senior staff for response.
- Researches and maintains knowledge of Survivor Affairs virtual programs, online media trends and best practices and recommends changes based on evolving practices.
- Performs outreach to Holocaust Survivors, their descendants and survivor organizations.
- Performs administrative duties, such as screening phone calls; developing administrative procedures; processing expenses; maintaining files; data entry, creation of reports; and arranging for catering, and supplies.
- Provides support for projects, programs and activities for the Office of Constituency Engagement as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for the role:
- 2+ years of administrative experience.
- Skill in interacting and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to successfully meet deadlines and multitask independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to locate and compile information from a variety of sources.
- Must be available to travel for local and out of town programming as needed.
