Currently, Spectrix Analytical Services, LLC is seeking a candidate to play a key role within the downstream purification function of the Discovery Protein Science group, supporting a wide range of therapeutic programs at our client's Cambridge Site. Responsibilities will span early drug candidate and reagent generation using traditional and automated purification systems, to final lead candidate process development and scale-up. Experience in protein purification and process development is required for this role. A background in AKTA/Unicorn programming and liquid handler operation will be helpful but not required, however the candidate must have a strong interest in automation and a proven track record of innovation and problem solving.
- Perform mid-scale purification for the evaluation and comparison of early Discovery therapeutic candidates.
- Larger scale protein production for cyno tox studies, concentratability, PK/PD, formulation/analytical development etc.
- Deliver on reagent requests supporting Discovery programs.
- Troubleshoot downstream purification processes and chromatography instrumentation.
- Perform manufacturability assessments as part of enabling package for therapeutic candidates transitioning to the Biologics Development organization.
- Utilize and continuously develop automated systems and strategies for high throughput multi-step purification, sample handling, and protein analytics.
- Troubleshoot downstream purification processes and chromatography instrumentation.
- Support upstream mammalian expression efforts when necessary.
- Participate in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and regulatory documents, where necessary.
MAJOR SKILLS REQUIRED:
- B.S. in a scientific discipline and at least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, vocational degree with at least 3-5 years experience or M.S. with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Protein purification experience including method development, optimization, and the ability to troubleshoot standard purification protocols and instrumentation.
- Experience with larger scale protein production is a plus.
- Hands-on experience in the operation and control of chromatography workstations (AKTA, BioRad, etc.).
- Excellent technical, organizational, and analytical skills are required.
- Protein characterization experience (biophysical, spectroscopy, protein assays, SDS-PAGE)
- Experience with LIMS and Electronic Notebook is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, evidence of innovative thinking, and ability to work with a sense of urgency under tight deadlines.
