Construction Superintendent Land Development & Roadway
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead land development and roadway projects from pre-construction through closeout. The Superintendent will manage onsite operations, coordinate subcontractors and crews, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. The ideal candidate has a strong background in earthwork, utilities, and roadway construction, and can provide hands-on leadership as both a superintendent and foreman when needed.
Key Responsibilities

Direct day-to-day field operations for land development and roadway projects, ensuring work meets project specifications and quality standards.

Plan, schedule, and sequence subcontractor and crew activities to meet project milestones and deadlines.

Supervise and mentor foremen and field crews; provide hands-on direction in earthwork, grading, and utility installation.

Coordinate with project management, engineers, inspectors, and owners to resolve site issues and maintain clear communication.

Enforce safety programs and maintain a culture of compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.

Monitor materials, equipment, and labor productivity; identify and escalate potential delays or cost overruns.

Conduct daily site reviews, maintain accurate logs and reports, and ensure proper documentation of changes and as-built conditions.

Oversee utility installations (storm, sanitary, water), erosion control measures, and roadway construction including base preparation and paving coordination.

Manage subcontractor performance, scopes of work, and ensure proper cleanup and final punch list completion.

Participate in pre-construction meetings and provide input on constructability, sequencing, and temporary site needs.
Qualifications

Minimum 7 years of heavy civil construction experience with progressively responsible field roles; prior superintendent experience preferred.

Proven experience in land development, roadway construction, utility installations, and heavy earthwork operations.

Strong leadership skills with experience supervising foremen, crews, and multiple subcontractors.

Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment, and QA/QC practices specific to roadway and utility projects.

Familiarity with local permitting, inspection processes, and erosion/stormwater control requirements.

Excellent communication, project documentation, and problem-solving skills; able to coordinate across teams and stakeholders.

Valid drivers license; OSHA 30-hour or equivalent safety training preferred; first aid/CPR a plus.

Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and survey information; proficiency with field reporting tools and basic construction software is desirable.
