In addition to State Application STD 678, a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is a required, typed narrative that demonstrates your ability to present information clearly and concisely while explaining how your education, training, experience, and skills meet the minimum and desirable qualifications for the position. Applications submitted without an SOQ, or with an SOQ that is vague, incomplete, or incorrectly formatted, will not move forward in the hiring process. The SOQ must be written in paragraph format and will be assessed for grammar and punctuation accuracy. A résumé or cover letter will not be accepted in lieu of the SOQ, and failure to follow these requirements will disqualify the applicant from moving forward in the interview process.
INSTRUCTIONS:
The following position-specific qualifications will be evaluated, and applicants must ensure that their name, classification title, and Job Control number appear at the top of the page. The SOQ must be typed with 1-inch margins, single spaced, in Arial 12-point font, questions answered in order, and no more than one page in length.
1. Provide a detailed example of a mistake you personally made in an administrative, procurement, fleet, or budget reporting task. Describe the mistake, how it was discovered, who you notified, what you learned, and the corrective actions or process improvements you implemented.
2. Describe a time when you had very limited information but still had to move a process forward. How did you proceed and ensure accuracy?
3. Describe a recent challenge you personally managed that required coordinating with multiple levels of management—such as a Supervisor I, Branch Chief, or leadership—while carrying out your regular responsibilities. In your response, explain the issue, how you prioritized tasks, how you communicated with the stakeholders involved, what tools or processes you used, and the specific results or improvements that came from your actions.
