Evening Family Room Associate
Part-time, weekday evening, non-exempt position reporting to the Hospital Programs Manager
Location: Located on the fourth floor of Golisano Children’s Hospital at UK at 800 Rose Street, Lexington, KY 40536. Ineligible for hybrid or remote scheduling.
Schedule: The Ronald McDonald Family Room is open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. This position is scheduled between three and five weekday evenings, 5:30pm-9:00pm.
Compensation: $15.00 / hour

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $15/hour and is in line with our Ronald McDonald House regional salary bands and comp market data for this role. This position earns overtime and holiday pay at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay for hours worked.

Position Summary
The Family Room Associate supports the Mission, and Core Values of the Ronald McDonald House Lexington by ensuring effective and efficient support of the day-to-day operations of the Ronald McDonald Family Room - located within Golisano Children’s Hospital at UK (GCH) - NICU Family Lounge and Care Cart programs. The Family Room Associate provides support to the Hospital Programs Manager through staffing the Family Room space to provide consistent operations and distribution of supplies for the program(s).
The Family Room Associate will support program functions through adherence with Chapter, Global, & Hospital guidelines. In addition, they are responsible for maintaining the resources necessary to meet the needs of operations and to fulfill licensing requirements, staffing the Family Room from 6:00pm-9:00pm on weekday evenings.
Key Responsibilities
To best support Ronald McDonald House’s mission, all employees are expected to make contributions to daily operations that are not explicitly stated within the scope of their job title or department duties.
This position prioritizes fostering human connections in what is often a stressful environment.
- Engage with Family Room guests, monitor their needs, provide information or referrals to ensure those needs are met, and maintain positive guest relations. Ensure Family Room guests have access to fresh coffee and snacks.
- Work with the Hospital Programs Manager to maintain and build relationships with key KCH stakeholders, including Volunteer Services, Nursing staff, Social Work Staff, and Environmental Services.
- Serve as an ambassador for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass by maintaining a professional and knowledgeable demeanor.
- Actively engage with volunteers and community members during shift hours, always maintaining a visible presence and helpful demeanor.
- Maintain an environment of respect and confidentiality, adhering to HIPPA policies and safe record keeping.
- Assist with collecting program data by ensuring all Family Room guests are electronically registered and signed in.
- Assess program supply inventory, assisting in pickup / distribution as needed.
- Follow current guidelines, systems, and procedures to support effective delivery of guest services and programs. Recognize emerging and evolving needs and propose new initiatives or modifications to existing programs to the Hospital Programs Manager.
- Assist in cleaning and maintenance of program spaces, including communicating with Hospital Programs Manager to ensure maintenance needs are met.
- Assist with volunteer training and shadow shifts.
Skills and Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills with a thorough understanding of or experience in providing outstanding customer service.

- Basic ability to navigate and learn computer programs, platforms, and applications (such as Microsoft Office, Google Suites) required.
- Must be comfortable and confident in a public setting to articulate and further the Mission of Ronald McDonald House.
- Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Must protect patient / family confidentiality by maintaining knowledge of and adhering to all HIPAA policies.
- This position works closely with our guest families and their medically fragile children. In addition, influenza vaccinations are an annual requirement.
- Ronald McDonald House Lexington employees who work in Golisano Children’s Hospital must be able to provide a record of vaccination, Measles/Mumps/Rubella (two vaccinations), Tdap (one vaccination), provide medical documentation that the employee has had Varicella (Chickenpox) OR documentation of two Varicella vaccinations, and receive an annual TB screening (blood draw, free of cost). **Please note that these are GCH requirements that must be in place before an employee or volunteer may work on site within their facility. If you lack medical documentation, the hospital can pull a titer (blood sample) to test for immunity.**
- Candidates who already have a Golisano Children’s Hospital volunteer badge are preferred, but not required. Ability to receive a badge is contingent on above immunization records, alongside a criminal background check and drug screening, handled by University of Kentucky HR.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to perform physical tasks normally associated with maintaining a house and managing inventory and supplies. The employee must be able to easily lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds several times per week, push/pull load bearing carts, and sit and/or stand for long periods of time. The employee will be exposed to occupational hazards typically associated with a business office as well as occupational hazards typically associated with working in a hospital setting. The employee must be able to see, hear, and speak English fluently.
