The Town of Mount Carmel is currently accepting applications for Court Clerk/Tax Clerk.
The Court Clerk/Tax Clerk performs responsible administrative and financial work in support of the Town's Municipal Court and property tax operations while providing exceptional customer service to the public. This position is responsible for maintaining court records, processing citations, collecting and receipting court fines, fees, and taxes, balancing daily receipts, preparing deposits, and maintaining accurate financial and legal records in accordance with applicable Tennessee laws and Town policies.
The Court Clerk/Tax Clerk also assists with general administrative support functions as assigned, helping fulfill the Town's commitment to efficient, responsive public service. The position reports to the Town Manager or designee.
· Serves as Clerk of the Municipal Court, maintaining court dockets, files, records, and proceedings in accordance with Tennessee law and Town ordinances.
· Receives, processes, and records traffic citations, criminal citations, warrants, court costs, fines, and related court documents.
· Coordinates Municipal Court sessions, prepares court packets, maintains court calendars, and assists the Municipal Judge, Town Attorney, law enforcement officers, and the public.
· Prepares and distributes court notices, correspondence, warrants, judgments, payment agreements, and other legal documents.
· Receives, posts, and processes property tax payments, court fines, fees, permits, and other Town revenues.
· Assists taxpayers with billing questions, payment options, delinquent taxes, and tax record inquiries.
· Balances and reconciles daily cash receipts, endorses checks, bank deposits, and maintains accurate financial records.
· Maintains electronic court, tax, and financial databases, ensuring complete and accurate records.
· Assists citizens, employees, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and outside agencies by providing information and resolving routine inquiries.
· Scans, indexes, and maintains electronic records in the Town's document management system.
· Prepares reports required by the Administrative Office of the Courts, State of Tennessee, and other governmental agencies.
· Assists with preparation of correspondence, permits, licenses, and other administrative documents as assigned.
· Provides high-quality customer service while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality in all court and tax matters.
This position requires graduation from high school, or an equivalency to high school graduation education/graduation is required. A bachelor’s and/or a master’s degree in public or business administration, accounting or a related field is preferred. Preferred candidates will have greater than 4 years of progressively responsible administrative services experience in municipal government; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. - Tennessee Municipal Court Clerk Certification (MCC) (or ability to obtain)
- Certification and maintenance as an Accounts Receivable/Payable Professional
This position is classified as Grade N (minimum $45,241.04 or $21.75/hour) on the Town's pay plan.
