Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Certified Medication Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in patient care, medication administration, and senior or geriatric care, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. As a Certified Medication Technician, you will be responsible for administering medications accurately, maintaining comprehensive medical documentation, and providing compassionate support to individuals with diverse healthcare needs. Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed medications to residents in accordance with state healthcare regulations and facility policies, ensuring accuracy and safety.
- Monitor residents’ vital signs and observe for any adverse reactions or changes in condition, reporting findings promptly to nursing staff.
- Assist residents with personal care activities, including hygiene, mobility, and daily living tasks, respecting their dignity and preferences.
- Maintain detailed medical records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or similar platforms, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support residents with specialized needs such as Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, and hospice care by implementing tailored care plans.
- Follow proper manual handling procedures during resident transfers or heavy lifting tasks to ensure safety for both staff and residents.
- Assist with medical procedures including tube feeding, catheter care, and medication management under supervision of licensed nursing personnel.
- Uphold confidentiality standards by safeguarding resident information and adhering strictly to HIPAA guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate resident care plans and communicate pertinent information clearly.
- Participate in ongoing training related to first aid, basic life support (BLS), CPR certification, and other relevant certifications to maintain compliance.
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and senior healthcare practices.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring specialized dementia or Alzheimer’s care is preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Cerner or EHR platforms used within healthcare settings.
- Proven ability to perform medical documentation accurately while maintaining resident confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
- Hands-on experience with medication administration protocols and resident personal care assistance in senior living or community-based settings.
- Knowledge of state Board of Nursing regulations governing medication technician roles and responsibilities is essential.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting residents with mobility or transfers while adhering to manual handling guidelines.
