Audio-Video (AV) Installation Technician
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Audio-Video Installation Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the on-site installation, configuration, and integration of premium residential and commercial low-voltage systems. From clean TV mounting and architectural speaker placement to complex rack builds and smart-home integration, you will turn engineered designs into flawless, functional realities.
The ideal candidate takes immense pride in clean wire management, possesses sharp troubleshooting skills, and maintains a professional, client-first demeanor on every job site.
Key Responsibilities
- System Installation: Install, mount, and integrate AV equipment including flat-panel displays, projectors, motorized screens, architectural speakers, and smart-home control hardware.
- Infrastructure & Low-Voltage: Pull, route, fish, and terminate low-voltage wiring (Cat5e/6, coax, speaker wire, fiber) in both new construction (rough-in) and existing retrofit environments.
- Rack Building & Wire Management: Assemble and dress equipment racks neatly, ensuring impeccable wire management, labeling, and thermal efficiency.
- System Configuration: Assist with the basic setup, testing, and calibration of networks, audio zones, video matrices, and control systems.
- Troubleshooting & Service: Diagnosing and resolving system bugs, connectivity issues, or hardware failures on-site.
- Client Walkthroughs: Educate clients on how to confidently operate their new systems and deliver a premium, professional customer experience.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, track project inventory, and mark up field changes on blueprints or schematics.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience in residential or commercial AV/low-voltage installation.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of signal flow, termination techniques (RJ45, compression connectors, soldering), and standard AV hardware.
- Industry Tools: Proficient with hand/power tools, multi-meters, wire testers, and drywall fishing tools.
- Physical Agility: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, navigate crawlspaces/attics, and stand for extended periods.
- Professionalism: Punctual, organized, and capable of working cleanly in high-end finished homes and active commercial job sites.
- Logistics: Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and a reliable way to get to work or job sites.
Preferred (But Not Required) Extras
- Experience with premium control systems (e.g., Crestron, Control4, Savant, Elan).
- Familiarity with network configuration (routers, switches, wireless access points).
- Industry certifications (e.g., CEDIA, InfoComm/AVIXA CTS, OSHA 10).
