The Logistics Specialist coordinates day-to-day transportation activities for inbound and outbound freight to ensure the timely movement of goods. This role serves as a primary point of contact for scheduling needs, collaborating with carriers and internal teams to track shipments, resolve minor exceptions, and maintain data integrity. By following established processes, this position supports the balance of service quality and cost-efficiency while adhering to food safety and transportation compliance standards.

Primary responsibility for the day-to-day freight scheduling activities by translating production plans and purchase orders into executable shipment plans, appointment requests, and site delivery schedules, ensuring all freight requests are processed within 24 hours.
Coordinate daily freight scheduling with carriers, brokers, and 3PLs—including capacity tendering, appointment confirmation, dock/lead-time validation, and mode optimization
Service as the primary logistics liaison for stakeholders and vendors by proactively communicating shipment status, constraints, and recovery plans, while coordinating the resolution of exceptions (e.g., late pickups, missed appointments, or damages) to ensure service continuity and site throughput.
Evaluate and select shipping methods and carriers that meet service requirements and cost targets by rate shopping within the approved carrier portfolio, soliciting spot quotes when needed for infrequent lanes, urgent requests, or short lead-time scenarios, and recommending the best cost-service balance.
Track and maintain the weekly hotlist to monitor shipment status, proactively notifying internal teams of any delays or exceptions to ensure visibility and resolution.
Maintain logistics master data and lane parameters—including lead times, transit times, and carrier contacts—to ensure data integrity for accurate tracking, reporting, and billing.
Assist in the preparation of documentation for freight claims and disputes; collect supporting evidence, facilitate communication with carriers, and monitor the status of recovery efforts.
Monitor and report on lane performance metrics (e.g., on time performance, tender acceptance, dwell time); identify recurring trends and suggest updates to standard work instructions to improve efficiency.
Support the Logistics Supervisor in maintaining accurate SOPs and training materials; provide administrative support for the rollout of new logistics processes.
Provide operational support for special programs or events by coordinating specific freight movements and distribution tasks as assigned.
Ensure compliance with applicable freight regulations, food-grade handling expectations, and company quality standards; document and support audits as needed.

This role supports service and cost goals by executing shipment plans, maintaining data visibility, and resolving routine operational exceptions. As an individual contributor reporting to the Logistics Supervisor, this position serves as a primary point of contact for carriers and internal stakeholders to ensure process adherence and operational continuity.
2–5 years of relevant experience in transportation, logistics coordination, supply chain, or distribution; experience in food, CPG, or regulated environments preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
Strong knowledge of transportation modes: Truckload (Dry Van, Reefer, Intermodal), LTL, Small Parcel (e.g., FedEx, UPS, USPS), Air Freight, Urgent Freight, White Glove, Ocean (FCL/LCL)
Experience in appointment scheduling, accessorial types, and freight documentation such as BOLs and PODs.
Strong understanding of freight regulations and compliance standards specifically related to food manufacturing and distribution.
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic data analysis).
Experience with TMS and shipment visibility tools strongly preferred.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to influence external partners and internal stakeholders.
Possesses a problem-solving mindset with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency and accuracy, utilizing root cause analysis to implement effective corrective and preventive actions with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, follow standard work, and escalate risks appropriately.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and time-sensitive service commitments.
Willingness for occasional travel as needed to support operations and events
Work may include occasional after-hours or weekend support for critical shipments, peak volumes, or special events to support operations and meet deadlines.
